Breaking a streak of 65 five-star reviews isn’t something I take lightly. I hold DMs to a high standard, and while there were strong moments in this session, it didn’t quite hit the level I was hoping for. Let’s start with what worked well. Music for the session was well-chosen and improved the scenes. The NPC dialogue felt natural and added real flavor to the world, especially with the variety of voices used. Use of the dragon’s breath weapon wasn’t held back, which made for an exciting and memorable encounter. And the closing speech wrapped things up with a cinematic flair that gave the ending real weight. However, there were a few technical hiccups that impacted the overall experience. The Roll20 setup in particular left something to be desired—the map was blurry and appeared to be pulled from a low-res source, and the Fog of War was revealed in a somewhat clunky fashion. Some of the handout and token management also could’ve been smoother, as visible monster tokens spoiled a few surprises that could have had more impact and handouts were not well utilized. There’s clear talent and creativity at play here. With some polish and tighter control of the digital tools, I think this DM is more than capable of returning to that five-star streak in no time.

Having played TTRPGs for over 20 years, I have high expectations for a Game Master and can be hard to please. Kan has exceeded those expectations in many ways. He expertly tailors his games to highlight each character and their backstory without compromising the overall plot, demonstrating a deep understanding of every player’s character. His vivid descriptions bring the world to life, creating a strong sense of immersion and realism that I greatly appreciate. Kan communicates clearly and effectively, ensuring the group knows what to expect while also incorporating their preferences into his preparation. I highly recommend him as a GM for anyone seeking a game with depth, richness, and a welcoming atmosphere.
