TJ is a great GM, a dear friend, and has been running games for a very long time! What sets him apart is how deeply character-driven his games are: plot threads are tied directly to PC backstories and motivations, custom items and abilities are built thematically around individual characters. The worlds themselves feel lived-in and believable, supported by impressive preparations. TJ reads the table well, knowing when to lean into roleplay, when to let combat have weight, and when to let players just have fun (and the combat itself lands as a balanced mix of challenge and play rather than a slog). He is equally good at teaching new players a system and at building bespoke experiences for veterans. He takes player feedback seriously, encourage shyer players to engage, handle conflicts thoughtfully, and has gone to extraordinary lengths to make games happen. Across the board, I would sum him up as "passionate": someone who treats games as their craft.
