About me

I've been playing D&D since my cousin first introduced 1E to me on a summer family vacation when I was 10. I soon started my own group with a few friends, which in high school merged with another group and lead to many, many grand adventures where I alternated as player and DM. Life happened after that, but after about 20 years I've returned to gaming and i hadn't realized exactly how much I had missed it. My favorite part of gaming - be it tabletop or video games - is creating new characters, understanding what makes them tick and how they came to be who they are. (In video game terms I am definitely an "altoholic").

Last has been amazing. I had never tried Play By Post before and thought it might be a good way to add a little extra D&D to my life beyond my weekly in-person game. Last offered very affordable options to get started, and as soon as I did I was hooked. Last does a really good job with making it feel like your character is part of the world and story, not just a game piece in a game. Her writing is great and she definitely keeps up and keeps the story moving. Checking Discord every morning to see what has happened is easily a highlight of my day now. I definitely recommend to anyone who hasn't given this a try to start here.

I starting playing with Roger after a friend recommended StartPlaying as a way to get back into D&D after many years away. Given I had last played when 3rd Edition was the mainstay, I had a lot to wade into with 5e rules, D&D Beyond and Foundry, and knocking off the rust on my game understanding in general. Roger is super patient with all of this for new and returning players, and I very quickly felt comfortable again. Even more, it feels like we've been playing together for years. Roger strikes the perfect balance between gameplay mechanics and player creativity. He has a seemingly encyclopedic grasp on the rules to help guide and correct when a spell or feature doesn't work the way you think. But he is equally eager to help you find a way to do the fun and crazy thing you were going for within the boundaries, instead of just shutting you down. It's very clear that the final arbiter for what goes is "is it fun?" Just from topics that have come up in Discord and in pregame chats, I can also tell that Roger puts a lot of time and energy into improving his craft. He has alluded to taking Improv classes, learning complex AI art generation tools, and following new rule advances. It is crystal clear that crafting a high quality gaming experience is his passion. I would definitely recommend playing with Roger to anyone, and I hope to keep playing with him for many sessions to come.
