I got into D&D primarily for the opportunity to tell stories with others and play through challenging and satisfying role play/character development. If that's what you are looking for, Zag is the best in the business. They do an in depth, individual character workshop so you both go into the first session already deeply understanding your character -- what drives them, what their weaknesses are, potential backstory hooks, etc. This allows Zag to create encounters, NPCs, choices that will challenge your character, and force you as a player to make difficult decisions about how your character will respond, grow, regress, etc. It also means you will play with a table of players who have also create complicated, multilayered characters -- creating great rp opportunities around the table. I've found I am as invested in my teammates' characters, and the difficult choices they have to make or they ways they grow and evolve throughout a campaign, as I am my own.
For anyone looking for complex world building, character development, and a great story, I would highly recommend checking out one of Jesse's campaigns. Jesse has woven my character's subclass into an intriguing backstory/plotline that I am really enjoying untangling bit by bit each week. His homebrew world is fully developed, layered, and complex - from the pantheon, geography, races, history - there is so much to discover! This includes multiple written languages that Jesse has created. My character has come across two notes that I as the player have been able to translate and decide when to "play." Overall, awesome experience!
