Colby took Exandria and made his own footprint on the world. By taking a slice of it's history and inserted the PCs into the timeline, he allowed for amazing creativity during the PC creation, and let our backstories blossom. Creating an original story isn't always easy, but Colby managed to do just that. His knowledge of the rules and his use of the "Rule of Cool" made for some awesome moments that kept me engaged. Colby was patient and understanding, and his story was topnotch! If your looking for a game, be as a new or a veteran player, you really should give Colby a chance, I'm betting you'll be happy you did. Happy Gaming all!
Vocalee (Mason) took the classic story of Curse of Strahd and made it feel like it should be - that your life was in danger from the 1st footstep onto Barovia. He allows for creativity, has good voices, encourages freedom of choice, and maintains a safe environment of inclusiveness & safety. No subject was untouched in his session 0 briefing, and he listened to the feedback from the players which in turn using likes/dislikes and he then built his version of CoS into a unique playground. Like most players, I was impressed with his DM style, knowledge of the system and his choices of encounters. Even a simple encounter felt like it had that edge of PC failure just hanging there. If you have some free time and are looking for a new game/DM, give Mason a look and let him give you a tour of his world, I'm sure pleasant things will happen for you, at the very least you won't be bored!
Having played in more than few adventures with Steve as my DM, I'm surprised with the sheer amount of patience he has for handling new players; whether it's walking them through PC creation, questions about how spells, attacks or actions work, or just the time that can be consumed while they learn what their PC can do...Steve has set a bar high for excellence in dealing with all of that. As an experienced player I have to tip my hat to Steve in how he deals with all of those variables WHILE running an adventure that pulls you in, keeps you engaged and tests the players/PCs skills in solving traps, encounters and handling combat as it breaks the normal boxed up adventure that 5E has created. His games are entertaining enough to keep veteran players interested while helping new players learn the system. There were not enough available tags to apply to Steve, his DMing style or his games; trust me if there were more options I would of selected them! He has managed to be a friendly & helpful person while maintaining the rules and still letting the players/PCs be who they want to be. I couldn't be more pleased to have met Steve and be playing in his games. If you're new, worried, unsure...DON"T BE! Let this DM be your guide into the wonderful world of D&D, he will take care of you while teaching you and everyone will enjoy themselves along the way. Steve is a perfect DM to help you learn how to play D&D, as he runs a smooth game with plenty of guidance should you need it. Give Steve a try, and I honestly believe that you'll be happy you did!
While this 1 shot was my 1st interaction with Bandeena as my DM, I have played in a few games with her before as another player...and the transition was smooth. She set tone with clear guidelines for Lines & Veils, and was receptive to feedback. Her Dming style was calm, smooth and clear; and all the while following the rules as written she also allowed for the rule of cool to take effect if it was explained decently enough to make sense. The RP value in a 1 shot tends to be limited in many cases, but she allowed the players to have a voice and interact with very little interruption, even encouraging the PCs to communicate when things needed to be shared group wide. Combat went smooth and fast, little to no hiccups, the pace was just fast enough that you felt like you were racing against the clock to solve the mystery as fast as possible. The "puzzle" aspect was well done and she allowed for some creative teamwork to get the details uncovered. The post game wrap-up with the PCs was amazing, to have the secrets revealed and to learn a little bit about the other players/PCs was cool. I personally feel that if your looking for a calm, smooth and easy going DM, that Bandeena is that DM. Give her adventures a chance and I think you'll find that you had a great time and not be disappointed.
Macy has taken Exandria and put her own home-brew twist into it while maintaining the lore of what makes Exandria so popular. The villains feel like they really are villains; the puzzles are tricky but revealing once figured out; the unique blend of magic items, spells and other effects that she allows the players to create and use is very in line with the "Matt Mercer" way of DMing/playing. While no one is Matt but Matt himself, Macy does an excellent job of following his lead in this wonderful world he has created for others to play in. Macy has created and maintains a very safe playing environment, allowing for all of us peeps to be ourselves and enjoy the great game of D&D. Even when we had a simple inter-party issue she was patient and understanding as the players worked through, and she has proven to be flexible when real life strikes the players and causes gaming issues. As a veteran player with more than a few years under my belt playing TTRPGs, I have to tip my hat to this young DM and acknowledge that she knows what she's doing. No obstacle has proven to big for her to overcome yet. I look forward to playing more adventures under her guidance! If she ever has an opening or starts up a new game, I urge you all to give her a try as your DM, I doubt you'll be disappointed!
