I'll be honest, reading the blurb on this one I wasn't convinced if this would be for me but I had the time, really felt like a game and it was pretty low cost. What followed was one of the coolest DND experiences I've ever had. It would be a sin to spoil any of it, but imagine the films Breakfast Club and A Cabin in the Woods having a baby. Tonally we covered teen comedy, campy horror, very, very legitimate horror and some weird wibbly wobbly stuff woven through with one of the twistiest & most compelling narrative threads. I think the two biggest reasons I ended up loving this session as much as I did was the GM's palpable love of the material, he really seemed to be having as much fun as the players. The second would be the myriad of difficult choices we had to make throughout that hooked everyone deeply into the story. The heavy consequence of these choices was apparent, without you ever being sure just how. The amount of panicked 'what the hell do I do now' moments were many. Our session ended up going for maybe a little over 4 hours and there wasn't a single second where I felt like we were in a lull. I believe we were just party to an absolute masterclass in pacing and story telling. Thank you GM!
As someone new to TTRPGs in general and Chronicles of Darkness in particular Matthew made jumping into this world immensely fun. The session had an awesome balance of RP, investigation and one of the coolest stories I've encountered yet. Matthew's passion for this world was infectious and I'm excited to explore it more.
