Combat was absurdly long and attending sessions became a waste of my personal time. I had 3 turns in combat over a months, to be fair games were only twice a month, but still. I had 2 turns in a trivial encounter, then I had the surprise condition in the 1st non-trivial encounter. I started playing games on steam because it took over an hour and twenty minuets to get back to my turn, because I was skipped due to the surprised condition in round one. Rolled. Miss. Hit. Then another 45 min before the encounter ended before getting back to my turn. Next session fail a WIS save 10 minuets into the session, character completely removed from the game, sat there watching everyone else explore the ship and try and solve the problem of this cursed ship(?) I don't know what happened because I left the campaign after sitting there for 2 more hours doing nothing on my second session. You many have a different experience, not bashing the guy, he super nice guy. I simply felt my personal time was being wasted at this table.

SO, you want to play D&D the way the OG's played it? You want to play with Epiccorey! You can tell EpicCorey has put a lot of time and love into his homebrew world. He does D&D right level 1-20 leveling through XP. Straight from Session 0, I could tell this was going to be a great story. The size of his custom world was impressive, I had not been expecting such a large map. He seems to take the time to put the players backstory into his world instead of just leaving it an afterthought of character creation. Just so happened we had to modify my backstory - literally just reskin some town names to port over from the forgotten Realms to his homebrew world of Lystovan. Just so happens the counterpart of Cormyr was the starting city for our adventure, and my backstory came into play on session 1. It was a cool little detail I was not expecting but really appreciated.

Ray has made a 100% pure homebrew campaign, that is just as good maybe even better than any official module put out by WOTC. It plays out like a great spy movie, where you think you got it all figured out and then you get that once piece of info that slaps you in the face and you go "Oh, see I thought.... Now that I think about it, those clues make a bit more sense now." This campaign has a rich range of NPC's, a super fun and engaging story, an incredibly unique world setting. Check it out!

This was my 1st time ever playing D&D so I was starting off as a 0xp noob. BJ did an excellent job explaining the break down the character creation. Even though I had a lot of questions of "what does this mean?" & "what is the difference between these two, they sound very similar?" He was very patient and helpful in his explanation(s).
