About Zeke

Hello! I'm Zeke. I like running games. I like designing them, too. I bring unusual settings to life with deep lore and bespoke homebrew character options. In my games, you might test your survival skills in a corrupted hellscape, or travel through time to the Stone Age to battle an immortal dark lord before his rise to power, or protect a solarpunk utopia from strange mutant beasts with your favorite raygun. If you've always wanted to play in a game with a unique premise, and you're looking for a GM to make that game a reality, feel free to reach out to me.

I became a GM because

my high school gaming group's GM backed out mid-session. Nobody else wanted to run, so I volunteered. I took over the adventure in the middle of the module. It was my third ever session of any game.

My favorite shows/movies are

fantasy shows with great worldbuilding, like Delicious in Dungeon, Castlevania and Steven Universe. I also like street-level superhero tales, like Luke Cage, Daredevil and Mystery Men.

My favorite system of all Time is

"Frontiers of Arud." It's a medium-crunch system that focuses on character customization and quick, action-packed gameplay.

How Zeke runs games

My games are on the technical side, with a medium difficulty level. Good preparation and thoughtful teamwork are the keys to success. My campaigns usually feature an optional challenge dungeon for parties who want a real test. To me, roleplay is like the seasoning in a soup. If it's used in moderation, it can make a good campaign amazing. Too much can be overwhelming. Too little leaves things bland. I use house rules to support the style and theme of the game I'm running. If we're playing a fast-paced action brawler, I might add a house rule that lets players make more attacks in a round. If we're playing an atmospheric horror game, I might add a house rule to track your character's stress level.

I deal with rules issues by...

making a ruling at the table to keep the game moving along. I might be wrong sometimes, but I feel it is better to keep the game moving than to stop play to reference the rules to make sure we get the perfect answer.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

Michael Bay and Werner Hertzog at the same time.

Rules are...

the physics by which the game world operates, and by which the players and the characters understand that world and move through it.

Zeke's ideal table

My table has a serious tone, with the occasional bit of levity that will naturally arise through play. I like to allow time to socialize at the table. For a lot of busy players, game night is the only time they have to unwind and chat with people outside their household. Players who interact with my game worlds, build on them, or shake them up will get more out of my games. It's more fun to play in a sandbox than to look at it from a distance.

I love it when a player

brings a character with a long-term goal to the table. (In one game in 2025, three of my players founded their own kingdom.)

I think metagaming...

is easily avoided by not talking about secret stuff out-of-character. If your character is secretly a spy for the enemy nation, other players can't metagame it if the only people who know are you and the GM.

I think min/maxing...

is a bad way to build a character, because it leaves them less able to participate in the game when they're not in the ideal situation they're built for. (Having a character who's strong in a fight is okay, but make sure they can do more than just fight.)
