About Yossarian7
Hi, I'm Yoss! I'm a writer and gamer, and I've been a huge fan of DnD since I was a kid. My longest running group has been playing for 4 years now, and I'm always the go-to person in a group to DM. I'm an actor and voice actor, and for my college theater group I'm usually cast as the narrator, or the character with the most unique voice. I've written a few books (to get it out of my system) and a bunch of short plays (some of which have been performed!) I'm currently majoring in political science, and generally figuring my life out. I hate AI with a burning passion, and it will see no place in anything I do.

I got started GMing...
Because my parents were huge DnD nerds back in the 90s and told me their stories. Hereditary nerdery.
My favorite books are
Going Postal, Monstrous Regiment, House of Leaves, Catch 22, and Slaughterhouse Five.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Reading or writing, or playing a difficult videogame.
How Yossarian7 runs games
I'm a very story first DM. Each session is a self-contained story, but part of a much larger, cohesive narrative. I love working with tension. Conversations with evil emperors that may spell disaster if the party can't convince them to leave in one piece. Smart, nerve-wracking combat encounters that force everyone to use every tool to their advantage. I treat combat encounters like puzzles, with unique goals and gimmicks that make every fight unique and memorable. Sometimes the enemy can't be defeated with traditional means, and its up to the party to figure out what makes them tick.

I once ran a session...
Where I didn't tell anyone, but the dungeon was inspired by classic arcade games. They only realized about 2 hours in, when the 4 technicolor ghosts in a maze started moving erratically.
I prep by
Trekking to an obscure mountaintop. I meditate for hours, balancing a fluttering leaf on the wind. When the stars align, I pull out my notebook, and realize that the session starts in 4 hours and I only wrote down "Cannibal plants?!?" and need to hurry the hell up.
When it comes to voices
I practice all of them by reciting the intro to "Welcome to the Black Parade" in the new voice. I do not know any other MCR songs, so I don't know why this stuck.
Yossarian7's ideal table
I like cultivating an earnest environment of people who aren't afraid to be weird and funny. When people feel comfortable enough to be themselves, they care far more when things get tense. I also love a player who actively wants to advance the plot. Whether it be the overall story, their individual character's arc, or the story of other characters!

I love it when a player
Doesn't try to hog the spotlight, but knows when its the right time to step into it.
I think min/maxing...
Is perfectly fine, as long as you don't try to steal everyone else's thunder.
My table is not the place for...
Being intolerant, or unwilling to work with other people!
