About Yarnickle
Welcome to my humble yarn mill. Please sit for a moment, whilst I make some last preparations. For you see, in this small, inconspicuous cottage, there is the potential for grandeur. Ah, there it is. Here is a spinning wheel for each and every one of you. … That is correct. You will be using them soon. While I have knowledge of countless stories across realms and time, one vital ingredient is missing: You. For the very soul and spirit of each story is that of the adventurers living through it. Now let me guide your hand while we work life into this loose collection of words, I’ve found waiting for you. My name is Yannick, I'm 28 years old and I’ve been playing TTRPG for about 7 years and soon after turned to GMing on my own in the vastness of the Traveller RPG - one of the most comprehensive science-fiction RPG. Yet, the gravity of the fantastical realms took me and threw me right into the worlds of D&D, where most of my playtime takes place nowadays. The joy of roleplaying games is one very dear to me, so I enjoy giving knowledge of it and its – by time vast or cumbersome – rule systems to people new to it. One of the most notable strengths lying within all TTRPG is that it takes us away from the hardships of real life and lets us experience different stories and delve into emotions that may not be able to surface in day-to-day life. A game that enables this possibility to experience a strong story with room for character development is only possible in a space where everyone feels safe, seen and supported. I very much enjoy playing with new players and introduce them into the fantastic realms that can be together created within RPG as well with seasoned players, so you will regularly see a mixture of games offered to beginners and advanced players on my site.

How Yarnickle runs games
I focus on story-driven adventures with a lot of room for roleplay. You will have a variety of characters, equipped with unique voices and personalities to interact with as well as areas to explore, secrets to find and riddles to solve. While I enjoy running roleplay-heavy sections, you can expect your fair amount of combat – well integrated into the story. The roleplay doesn’t stop with me, just because swords are meeting, arrows are piercing flesh and deadly magic is unleashed. We will play with Foundry VTT – a powerful tool for immersive exploration and dynamic fights – supplemented with a variety of modules, enabling me to handpick meaningful music and complex soundscapes as well as animated attacks and more. You can furthermore expect a strong integration of your characters backstory – if you wish so – and the possibility to contribute in shaping the world around you. An adventure can only shine with your creativity and interaction, so be sure that your ideas will be valued and integrated and I will be your fan, if you want to try unconventional approaches and let the Rule of Cool apply. For every adventure there will be a session 0, where we will discuss the setting, expectations and safety tools, which are a priority to me, to ensure everyone is happy and comfortable. I am open to feedback and encourage everyone to be open about problems during the session, so I can adapt and create an even better and safer environment.

My games focus on...
Roleplay and character building. I want you to feel as if you are inside the world we play in. I try to let roleplay be as consistent as possible and not even drop it during combat - giving you meaningful and enticing fights - not soulless number crunches.
Rules are...
a way to let us tell a story together on a common base. Apart from that their aim is to empower characters to live through situations we cannot. It is important that the rules are consistent, but they are not set in stone, where they hinder that empowerment or don't account for a certain situation.
When it comes to voices
I enjoy finding different voices that incorporate the characters' personalities as well as species and give my best to include a balanced share of female characters. I aim for recognisable voices, but I am not a trained voice actor, so don't expect a perfect display.
Yarnickle's ideal table
My perfect table consists of players that are invested into their characters. Be creative, give me your ideas and be open for my feedback, so we can weave in everyone's story as best as possible into the adventure. Cheer for your character, but also cheer for everyone else's. Be not afraid to make mistakes and try out new or cool things. The ideal table - in my opinion - doesn't account for experience in a player. It accounts for the ability to listen to others and play as a group. I like, as a general vibe, a certain seriousness to the story, but at the same time a lightness within the group with room to laugh and jest. While the story we experience together, might have a certain tone or another, we still play a game together and I like if this reflects in the general mood.

I love it when a player
- supports other players in the group and lets them have their moments - brings their own ideas into a campaign - lets me know of things they like and didn't like - is engaged in roleplay
I think metagaming...
is a way of thinking, we learn from video games and a competetive sense towards social interaction and disrupts roleplay. I try to discourage metagaming, in my games, but am well aware that it takes some work to lose this mindset and won't draw a hard line.
