About Brooke - Wrathanet

Hi there! Since my first homebrew D&D 5e campaign in 2015, I have loved every moment of being a game master. I live for the times where the game comes alive and both the players and I can’t wait to see what happens next. In addition to Dungeons and Dragons, I've also had a great time exploring new genres through systems like Monster of the Week and Avatar: Legends, and can’t wait to use even more games to share everything the hobby has to offer. My proudest moments as a DM have been guiding new players as they find their voice, watching them embrace the suspense and laughter of a game. The most fun moments for me are giving voice to NPCs that delight the table and finding ways to give players' actions weight and create ripples in the broader world that come back to drive the story. As a trans woman, I also love the potential of ttrpgs as an opportunity to explore identity! It was a wonderful way for me to test the waters before first sharing who I really am with the world. With the moderation of safety tools, it can be so much fun to explore a different side of yourself, whether you are just beginning to question or are settled and comfortable in your gender and who you are. Whether you are a seasoned veteran or just beginning to explore tabletop roleplaying games, I’m looking forward to our next adventure together!

When I'm not running games I'm...

singing, crafting (sewing and embroidery), practing HEMA, loving on my two guinea pigs, and enjoying books, games, and shows! I'm a die-hard fan of Cyberpunk 2077, Kingdom Hearts and NK Jemisin just to name a few.

How Brooke - Wrathanet runs games

First and foremost, my goal is to create stories and experiences that players will never forget! I want to be the players' and characters' biggest fan, which means designing challenges to highlight the strengths of both. My strategy is to tailor our game to make each players’ character an integral part of our shared world. I also love improvising and thinking on my feet! Let's work together to shape the story and themes to ones we're all excited to explore. When the dice don’t roll your way, I enjoy using it as an opportunity for a difficult choice, dangerous temptation, or exciting new twist in the story. I see game rules as guidelines, and my first priority is to make sure everyone has fun!

I once ran a session...

of a D&D 5e horror one-shot where a player was so drawn in, as I described the lights flickering and suddenly going dark she screamed in real life!

I prep by

taking notes at the end of each session, keeping track of what drew the party's interest and what their intended next steps are. From there I prep any characters and enemies the party might encounter, and what hooks I might include to draw your character to their next adventure.

Rules are...

meant to be guidelines. If something is getting in the way of a satisfying story or exciting challenge, I'd rather collaborate with my players to find something that works.

Brooke - Wrathanet's ideal table

I take my stories seriously, but want to make sure there's room for lighthearted fun between players and between characters! My goal is to strike a balance between letting characters feel heroic, but providing challenges and creating an environment when success is not guaranteed and might come at a cost. Players in my games should feel like they are all on the same team. Their characters might not be aligned in methods or purpose, but ultimately they act towards a shared interest. It's no fun when a paladin PC insists the rogue be thrown in prison for their actions, nor when the rogue kills NPCs for no reason and forces the paladin to choose between keeping their oath or staying in the party. My first and foremost goal is to keep the game flowing. I prefer to make temporary and non-binding decisions when rules are in question and we don't have a ready answer. I'm happy to discuss questions afterwards, but I want to avoid interrupting the game with lengthy debates. When in doubt, I always try to err on the side of the players.

I am for a vibe that's...

mutually supportive and cooperative. The most fun I've had is when both players and I support each other's ideas and stories and encourage each other to keep the conversation going!

I love it when a player

engages with NPCs and the world around them, and offers exciting ideas that I might not have even considered!

My table is not the place for...

undermining other players. I enjoy juicy conflict between characters, but all players must agree before and during events where their characters come into conflict.
