About Thomas

Hello, I'm Thomas, and welcome to my profile. I have been playing TTRPGs for a long time. I have been playing 5e for the past couple of years. but i have played D&D since 2nd edition in the mid to late 90s. I have also GMed G.U.R.P.S. games in the past, And will again if people will ask for that. I pride myself on learning systems quickly and willing to DM many systems even those I am not familiar with. I use roll20 as a VTT and have all D&D books on both roll20 and D&D Beyond. Discord will be used for text, voice and video. Safety tools are essential to me; All games start with Lines & Veils and have the X Card. I also support using Script Change and Open Door, which is the assurance that someone can leave or take a break for any reason without being judged. Session 0 is also a must for campaign games.

How Thomas runs games

My style is fairly loose. I tend to go with the flow and enjoy the rule of cool. I do follow safety rules. session 0 will be used for character creation, as well as going over safety. Veils and lines should be given to me before play in a private chat. So that we can go over them in session 0.

I deal with rules issues by...

first seeing what the rules says about the issue. then decide to follow that and decide if i like the rules as written or if what the player is doing is more fun. i still try to balance fun and the rules as written. to be fair to the table.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

Guillermo del Toro

Thomas's ideal table

I tend towards wishing for balanced tables. I am comfortable with chaos as long as other players agency is taken into account. but also try and bring balance.

I think metagaming...

Is not a good thing. it can ruin the game for other players. yes you know these monsters. that is okay. but using knowledge your char wouldn't have can break the immersion, and can be rather off putting.

I think min/maxing...

min/maxing is one of those topics that it can work. but you need to be able to explain why they are the way they are. if your are building a min/max build you need to include what lead to the choices that caused the min/max. but if you can't role play the min/max, don't do it.
