About Chris
Hi, I’m Chris — and I have a serious addiction to D&D. Since I first started playing around 2010, I’ve never looked back. I began GM-ing in 2017, and it quickly became my passion. With my friends, I helped grow our group to about 10 players, rotating GMs every week. One of my favorite traditions was hosting an annual awards evening where all the GMs ran mini-adventures — a night full of fun, surprises, and great memories. Originally from the UK, I married a South African and now run immersive D&D Weekends out in the wilds of South Africa. Check out what it’s all about at https://waterberg-dnd.co.za. I’m all about the rule of cool over strict rules, crafting epic, player-driven stories that really bring the adventure to life. My greatest strength? Off-the-cuff improvisation — but don’t worry, my worlds are rich in detail with pages of notes for every session. I can’t wait to share some unforgettable adventures with you!

How Chris runs games
My GM style is very open-world — I’m not a fan of railroading players. If you want to explore an unexpected path, I’ll happily weave an intriguing story to follow you there. While I generally stick to the rules to keep encounters structured and fair, I’m a strong believer in the rule of cool taking precedence over rules as written. Almost anything goes in my games, as long as everyone feels comfortable and respected at the table.

I once ran a session...
after doing a 5km colour run, I had a quick shower as my players got out their dice.
My games focus on...
PC growth, introducing complications that bring the world alive around them.
Rules are...
a good structure, but I never let them stand in the way of a cool story
Chris's ideal table
I love running games for creative players who challenge and inspire me. If I had to build my ideal party from classic player archetypes, it would be a balanced mix of: - A rules lawyer I can rely on for the finer details (and occasionally defer to). - A button pusher who dives headfirst into the more dangerous and alarming parts of the world. - A chaos goblin to keep things unpredictable and keep me on my toes. - A dedicated roleplayer who helps breathe life into the story and world. - A group parent who brings everyone together and keeps the table feeling like a team.

I love it when a player
goes in an unexpected direction, it always leads to the best stories!
I think it's a red flag when players...
don't give space for others at the table to have their moment.
I think metagaming...
is an unavoidable part of the game that should be embraced, in my games I expect players to metagame and often add twists to keep them on their feet!
