About Valkavian

Hello! I'm Val (They/them.) I am a writer, Storyteller, and player myself both in home games and live shows. I started my TTRPG journey in early 2018 with D&D 3.5 and have slowly breached out to other systems during that time! However, most of if not all that time has been as a Game master, and voluntarily at that! Which is a funny story on how that started -- Safety and inclusively is by far my first front concern at a table. Rest assure on that front. Meaning my table is proudly LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and beginner friendly. Followed by heavy roleplay, personal horror, and a chance for each player to get a shot in the spotlight. Outside of TTRPG, I love to roleplay, go on abnormally long walks, and do beyond inspired edits of my games. So, if you’re looking for a campaign that is deep into in character roleplay with a relaxed, non-judgmental atmosphere as you full nerd-out, you’ve found the right table!

Often writing books and/or editing little silly things for myself or my players. Otherwise, I am enjoying reading with my kids and teaching them of TTRPGS.

How Valkavian runs games

Roleplay heavy tends to be where I lean into the most. However, when combat / action comes into play, it’s usually high stakes and high rewards. Social & Political type game stories is where I thrive secondary in. Table consent sheets and safety tools are also a must to sit at my table. Refusing any such things will have no spot at my table.

Roleplay over dice mechanics. While I know this is not a style for everyone, I rather allow players and NPC's to push a scene instead of interrupt it with a roll.

comes to me with game theories that they are excited about. Having a player think they are onto a plot and start to spam private channels / above game chat makes me tickled.

I think metagaming...

to a degree is needed. Sometimes a player, as well as a game master, need to sit and talk things out so they both feel comfortable with the potential flow of a story. Knowing what is coming or could happen helps make the story just as much as any dice roll.
