About Tome Keeper Devin
Greetings and well met! I am Tome Keeper Devin, a professional GM, game designer, and story performer with years of experience writing for the Adventurers League, multiple 3rd-party 5e titles, and the Adventure Party board game. I've run countless convention games across North America, collaborating with fans, creators, and industry icons alike. My table has welcomed legends such as Ed Greenwood, Keith Baker, Luke Gygax, Elisa Teague, Serena Marie, and even Wizards of the Coast founder Peter Adkison along with actors like Damien Haas, Andrew Wincott, Dave Jones, Tamaryn Payne, Mela Lee, and Nicolas Roye. My love of fantasy began with my late father, who passed his passion for stories and gaming down to me and sparked the fire that still drives my imagination today. That early gift grew into a lifelong fascination with medieval history and old-school fantasy, all of which shape the worlds and adventures I create. What truly matters to me is using role-playing games to enrich the lives of players, especially kids and young adults, by giving them a place to grow confidence, explore identity, and feel heroic. I got started GMing...
My parents got me the D&D 3rd Edition starter set when I turned 11. Until then, I’d just watched my dad play Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale. Then I found Gygax’s original Monster Manual, which cemented my love of the old-school which mixed with my more modern influences to create my personal style.
My favorite books are
Three Hearts and Three Lions by Poul Anderson
People are always surprised when I tell them
I haven't done much drama or theatre. I'm just a passionate gamer who loves roleplaying and has spent a neurodivergent lifetime of masking to secretly hone my performance skills.
How Tome Keeper Devin runs games
I run immersive, character-driven games with a balance of expressive roleplay, tactical high-stakes combat, and worlds rich with history, lore, and classic fantasy flavor. I center player agency, encourage bold ideas, and keep pacing smooth and engaging. My sessions are welcoming, inclusive, and story-focused, built to empower players, spark creativity, and tell stories they’ll be talking about long after the dice stop rolling.

I deal with rules issues by...
Usually working with the player to clarify their goal, then find the simplest way to achieve it within the rules, bending or breaking them when necessary to keep the game flowing and fun. I occasionally say no, but usually I make it work.
I prep by
Listening to thematic music as I pace around my house, talking through ideas and scenarios aloud to myself. I enjoy weaving player character backstories into the session as much as possible, making the story feel personal.
Rules are...
The framework structure to which we introduce stakes, shaping the twists and tension of our shared story.
Tome Keeper Devin's ideal table
I enjoy a variety of play styles: fast-paced, time-sensitive games where every moment counts; story-driven, roleplay-heavy adventures where combat is rare but impactful; classic dungeon crawls filled with danger at every turn; and immersive, slow-burn campaigns where the players dictate the pace. As a player-focused GM, I celebrate success, but I make sure it’s earned. I often explore themes of philosophy and morality, with a particular fondness for morally grey choices. At the same time, I adapt to my players’ preferred styles, mirroring them to create an engaging experience.

I am for a vibe that's...
Relaxed but still takes the game seriously. I don’t expect, or even really want, players to avoid out-of-character jokes or references; I enjoy those, too. That said, I do wish for players to respect the world I’ve created and engage with it thoughtfully.
I love it when a player
Fully immerses themself in the story, world, and characters, asking questions and showing a genuine curiosity to engage with my creations.
I think metagaming...
Can be fine when it’s used for out-of-character jokes or references, but it shouldn’t dictate a character’s decisions. One way I try to minimize it is by homebrewing most monsters, giving them unexpected traits or abilities that keep players on their toes.
