About Ben

Welcome to The Wit's End! I'm Ben, and I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons in some form or another for the last 14 years and GMing for 11 years. I run in-person Dungeons and Dragons 5e (2014 rules) games in the Philadelphia area with difficult encounters, large rewards, and inspiration awarded for wittiness, cheeky retorts, and clever roleplay. I love homebrew and often improvise my loot rewards on the fly. I also enjoy writing adventures and NPCs, and I love a good sidequest. Come join The Wit's End today! We're going to have a dangerously good time.

I ran my first game...

in college because I missed TTRPGs and couldn't find anyone to run a game. I pitched it to my frat brothers and they gave me a chance; and the rest is history!

How Ben runs games

My games are filled with difficult encounters, large rewards, and inspiration awarded for wittiness, cheeky retorts, and clever roleplay. I love homebrew and often improvise my loot rewards on the fly. I also enjoy writing adventures and NPCs, and I love a good sidequest or backstory quest. If you're not afraid to roll death saves, but want your survival to enrich your characters beyond their imagination, this is the game for you. Bring your wit, your sense of adventure, and enough healing to get you by; The Wit's End awaits.

I deal with rules issues by...

finding a compromise which promotes fun, but allows for manageability. I don't like to take away clever interpretations of rules, so often I will find an in-between so the player feels rewarded and my game doesn't break.

I once ran a session...

where a player was turned into a duck. She loved it - spent the next few sessions quacking and genuinely became Untitled Goose Game incarnate. The party eventually got her to a witch to remove the curse, but in the meanwhile she just rolled with it. This flexibility is my favourite type of play.

When it comes to voices

it depends on the NPC - I will try to give them a consistent voice, but if they suddenly change accents, well, just try not to notice.

Ben's ideal table

My ideal table is players who are engaged, love their characters, want to solve problems, but also know how to take a day off. They're unafraid to lose a character and recongize that combat will be hard, rewards will be generous, and wit is always rewarded. I don't even mind if you poke some fun at me! The Wit's End spares no one, DM included!
