About Nathaniel Lee

Hi, fellow gamers! My name's Nathaniel, and I love playing TTRPGs. I'm a forever GM by choice because I love to set the scene and see what my players do. I got started with early edition Dungeons & Dragons way back in the late 80's, and I've run over a dozen 5th Edition campaigns since 2018. I also run numerous one-shots at conventions such as PAX Unplugged and Dreamation every year, and I've recently expanded to several new game systems such as Fallout, Aliens, and Mothership. Did I mention I love playing TTRPGs?

My favorite shows/movies are

The Shawshank Redemption for its message about the power of hope, resilience and perseverance; Finding Nemo for its message about family and the love of a parent for their child; and Aliens because it subverted gender conventions to give us our first true female action hero and was just plain cool.

How Nathaniel Lee runs games

As a GM, I love setting the scene and seeing what my players do. I run D&D campaigns in a homebrew campaign setting that I've been using for almost a decade now, adapting and updating it for each campaign to integrate aspects of some of the characters' backstories to provide a more immersive and unique experience each time. I try to provide a healthy balance of social, exploration and combat encounters, and I love watching my players overcome the challenges that I put in front of them, especially when it involves ideas out of left field or "Hail Mary" moments! While many of my games tend to include violence, blood, gore, and other PG-13 type of content by default, I adapt based on the players at my table. As an example, I recently ran a Fallout one-shot at a convention where 2/3 of the table was a family with two young children, so I significantly toned down a lot of descriptions and references to make it kid-friendly.

I deal with rules issues by...

...trying to keep the game moving. If there's a simple disagreement that can be quickly resolved, we'll try to do so. If there's a more fundamental disagreement that would result in a long interruption, best not to let it hamper the game... we can always resolve offline between sessions.

When it comes to voices

...I try my best, but invariably all of my accents transform into either a high fantasy British accent or the Hollywood Western/Southern drawl, for better or worse. I certainly don't expect more of my players, and if you're more comfortable just narrating from a third-person, that's cool, too! :)
