About TheLoreWriterGM

Musician, Martial Artist, and Teacher by day, GM of 9 years by Game Time. I'm currently an English teacher based in South Korea, but I hail from Southern Ontario, Canada. I'm an enthusiast of all things fantasy, space opera, and mil-sim or sci-fi, spending way too many nights deep diving on the lore of my most recent hyperfixation. I'm also an openly queer male and my tables are likewise inclusive. My Experience: I've run several one shots, play by post servers, some brief adventures and a few multi-year-long campaigns. My bread and butter is low fantasy, but I'm always looking to learn new systems and dip my toes into other genres like post-apocalyptic and historical fiction. If you join one of my games, expect the following: - Adventures written with your goals in mind - Expansive worlds with inclusive and diverse casts - Settings where you can have a say in the lore and details - Flexibility on rulings and unorthodox problem solving - Resources to familiarize yourself with important information - Zero use of generative AI - A no tolerance policy for bigotry or abuse towards anyone at the table

I started running games because...

I was watching a livestream of a DnD campaign and decided I wanted to try it too. I found my group from the stream chat and began my first homebrew campaign. Nearly a decade later and I'm still running the weird and wild ideas that spring from my imagination.

How TheLoreWriterGM runs games

I run my games on a story first principle. Rules and mechanics are great for enabling action and adventure, but they still come second to telling an exciting and engaging story. A player making a strong argument may skip rolling to persuade if their words would ring true with the target. Clever use of your gear might come in handy during a fight or skip the battle entirely. In essence, if the scene supports it and it makes sense for your character, I'll usually be on board for weird and crazy ideas. At my table, I like to push my players to use everything at their disposal. Roleplay encounters will rely on favours the party has collected, the feats they've accomplished, and the assets they've earned. Combat may have secondary objectives, enemies who let your special abilities shine, or map elements that can turn the fight to your favour with tactical decision making. Something else to know about my style of GMing is that I love grounded realism. Battles where you feel every blow. Exploration that takes time to see the world and all its beauty. Social encounters where a wisecrack to the wrong noble could land the party in a prison break arc. Since the majority of my games are based in homebrew settings, you can expect a brief primer on the tone of the game, the lore of the setting, any house rules, and whatever content is available for character creation. A PDF of any sourcebooks used in the game will be provided upon joining. You'll have everything you need to play.
