About Charlie
Hello! I’m a storyteller at heart. Before I was a GM, I was a writer, focused on cosmic horror and suspense. That passion for atmosphere and exploring the unnatural runs through every game I run. By day, I’m an educator, a role that’s made me an organized listener committed to building a positive, collaborative environment where everyone’s voice is heard. My GM philosophy is simple: we build the story together. Your characters are the protagonists. Their choices and goals drive the narrative. I don’t tell my story; I create a living world for you to challenge, change, and make your own. My favorite games share core elements: high stakes, meaningful choices, and a world that feels alive. I love building a palpable atmosphere—whether it's the creeping dread of a modern conspiracy, the tactical tension of a high-stakes combat, or the fast, deadly thrill of old-school exploration.

How Charlie runs games
My approach to GMing is player-driven. I believe the best stories emerge from your choices. If we're playing a pre-written AP, I love when a character takes an unexpected route and I want to support that. If we're playing a more open type of game, I thrive on player-driven story building, chasing the dominos of decisions as a genuine story emerges under our feet. While I often build or run games in serious, high-stakes settings (my horror-writing roots!), I absolutely live for the emergent silliness that comes from in-character play. Those unexpected, hilarious moments of levity against a serious backdrop are what make the game truly special. My focus is on high-stakes, player-driven stories. I'm great with character voices, usually ace on the rules so we don't lose time to rooting through the player's handbook, and I genuinely just love tabletop roleplaying games. I like to have fun, and I love all the versions of fun that can come out of games like these.
Charlie's ideal table
I like it when my table feels like a game with old friends. But I also recognize it takes time to build that feeling with groups online. Everybody brings different things to a table and needs different things from a game night. The best tables are those where we don't step on each others toes with what we need out of a night, and also recognize that folks are different. We're trying to have some lighthearted fun and if we're lucky, we might see some moments of real gravity emerge in our story telling. I like to make sure everyone has space to take the spotlight as much as they want or is comfortable, and that can be an ongoing process to find the right balance for any group of people. At the end of the day: anyone who has a good sense of humor, wants to participate in a great story, and is excited to sit back and unwind for a few hours will feel great at our table. A small note, we're adults at a table so themes may come up -- but, my style does not agree with people who are looking to do deep explorations of trauma or overtly sexual roleplay. It's game night, and while we may allude to a saucy experience two NPCs were having or the heinous things a villain has done -- we certainly don't need a scene where we explore every detail.
