About DM Mike
Hello there! DM Mike is the name and D&D is (typically) the game. I love DMing and have been running and playing in TTRPG games for the past 15 years of my life with over 5 of those being as the forever DM. I specialize in story-driven adventures where character choices shape the world, consequences matter, and the narrative is as important as the combat. Expect distinct character voices, high-stakes drama, and a DM who’s part narrator, part improv actor, and part evil wizard (just narratively… probably). Whether you're here for emotional arcs, ridiculous antics, or heroic triumphs, I’ll help make your campaign or one-shot unforgettable.

I became a GM because
I wanted to play D&D and none of my friends wanted to DM! I had played in a few campaigns/one-shots prior to this and had the opportunity to DM at a volunteer one-shot event for kids. So, when I found enough people to play, I was happy to volunteer to run the game!
My favorite books are
The Witcher Series, Master & Apprentice (and other Star Wars EU novels), and I've recently gotten into Lit-RPGs thanks to my monthly book club (reading He Who Fights With Monsters currently).
When I'm not running games I'm...
Spending time with my two kids at the energy-filled ages of 5 and <1 Year! And if the gods find it in their mercy to bestow a boon of time beyond that, I enjoy hobby crafting/building around the house including terrain, house projects I put off long enough, and my current project: a gaming table!
How DM Mike runs games
Player Character focused and story driven. My games are very role-play heavy and tend to strike a good balance between combat, political intrigue, and classic mystery adventure. I am high stakes - which means every encounter will be too!

My games focus on...
What the players want to do! I love setting player goals and crafting a story with my players around them.
Rules are...
A tool. And like any tool, sometimes you need to know when the task requires a different one!
When it comes to voices
Uniqueness (Unique-ity?) is the name of the game! I'm always experimenting with new voices and tinkering with old ones. If the NPC is note-worthy, the voice should be to!
DM Mike's ideal table
Roleplay-heavy, PC goal oriented players tend to thrive at my table! Generally, I'm pretty go-with-the-flow as long as rules of common courtesy are being followed, and I find my table vibe is similar.

I love it when a player
knows their character back-story, motives, and attitude inside and out! If you can separate what your character would do vs. what you want to do, you get a boon of inspiration!
I think min/maxing...
goes both ways. I'm always up for a challenge, so if it makes sense for your story, become the tri-class vampire god you always wanted to be... and expect the quad-class BBEG to be a tough matchup.
My perfect party mix is
Archetypal. Every table needs a planner, a jokester, a min-maxer, and a hero. No party needs a steamroller!
