About DM Amy (AJ)

Hello players! My name is Amy and it's great to virtually meet you! I have been a professional DM for 6 years participating monthly in Baldman Games Virtual D&D Weekends and at many paying virtual conventions like GaryCon, Origins and GenCon. I have also run DDXP tracks in person for Baldman Games at Origins and GenCon. In 2023 I was awarded DM of the Year by Baldman Games. Diversity in gaming is deeply important to me. I believe that everyone deserves to see themselves reflected in the stories we tell and the worlds we explore together. Games are a powerful medium for connection and empathy, and they’re at their best when they welcome people from all walks of life. I strive to ensure that my games represent a broad spectrum of identities, backgrounds, and experiences especially those from marginalized groups who have too often been left out or misrepresented. Whether it's through inclusive worldbuilding, respectful portrayals, or listening and learning from my players, I do my best to create spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and empowered to be part of the adventure. My style of DMing is fast paced and exciting. I'm a big ham at roleplay. I like to draw out players and help them find their own voice. I also understand that it's hard sometimes to feel like roleplaying within a busy, animated gaming atmosphere even if it's virtual. I want to get better at bringing out the best in everyone that sits at my table and make sure everyone enjoys themselves. Let's make a fun game together! Okay enough about me. I would like to get to know you! Direct message me here or find me on Discord.

I got started GMing...

because as long as I can remember I have wanted to tell stories and pretend to be someone else. Pretending and emoting as someone else is my favorite type of entertainment for me. Plus I love the crunchy bits of rules that shape and aid in helping tell a story.

My favorite books are

The Deed of Paksenarrion, The Legend of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon Any and all Joe Abercrombie The Red Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson Power Mage series by Brian McClellan Red Queens War series by Mark Lawrence All Jim Butcher A Song for Arbonne by Guy Gavriel Kay All Robin Hobb

How DM Amy (AJ) runs games

My GM style is very narrative driven. I give descriptions that include all senses and make you feel as if you're watching a movie and your character is in one of the leading roles. I also want it to feel like your character is an extension of you and brings out the best in you while you play. I include everyone in the story as it's being told. I really like fast paced combat that keeps everyone on their toes. I fully know the rules of the games and enforce them but at the same time I will allow for them to be bent a little for any particularly cool action! I reward creativity and try my best to be creative as well. Most of all I want help you and your character to create a great story that you will remember long after you leave the table. That's what it's all about after all! No DM is the perfect DM. What we do is more than a hobby; it's a craft and you're always learning, always getting better in the ways that matter to your players. I know my weaknesses and want to work on them. I fully recommend, if you join one of my games, to start a conversation with me about how I can be a better DM in the ways that matter to you. I run most of my games on the Roll20 platform and have 10k+ hours of game time logged. I know the platform very well and I hope that as you play you feel as if you're not sitting in front of a screen but at a table. I also run games on Foundry and have been for several years.

I once ran a session...

for a charity event benefiting disabled children, held in a local library. It was the most special session I’ve ever been a part of. I felt truly honored to create a space where these kids (who need escape and wonder more than most) could laugh, imagine, and be heroes for a day.
