About me

Steve starting playing Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering in Middle School, while the Magic habit did not stick, the TTRPG habit most definitely did. He's been playing and running games with home groups, at Friendly Local Game Stores, gaming conventions, and, since the advent of Coronapocalypse, online. Steve's love of gaming, fantasy, and sci-fi lead to a degree in History and a teaching career. (He even met his wife at his university's Medieval History Club.) At one point he even managed to convince his school's administrator to let him teach a "Guided Improv" theater elective (the improv was guided by the roll of d20's). He continues to teach high school history and occasionally helps out with the school's gaming clubs.

GM Style

I will spend hours creating the characters for the games I play, so I appreciate a well-honed character. That being said, a 10-minute, "let's get this thing together so I can play" character can be just as fun. I enjoy collective story-telling and creative problem-solving, so when a player in my games comes up with a unique solution to a challenge, I roll with it. I am familiar with the current ruleset, but I try to avoid rules lawyering at my tables. I am a firm believer in "DM rule zero" and "The Rule of Cool". At the same time, I don't want any single player to hijack the game and have the rest of the table feeling left out.

He generally allows us to create wacky characters. Nothing too insanely powerful, but the goofy concepts are fun. Mainly plays modules, I don't know if homebrew is something that will happen, but it could.

Steve loves explaining the rules, which makes him great for beginners. He is also good at switching between letting newer players figure out a situation and make their own choices (and mistakes!), and giving hints on how to proceed or advice on character development. He enjoys getting immersed in the characters in the game, and finding ways to involve the players directly with their backstories rather than just letting you play through the plot ambiguously. He is great at balancing the game to the level of experience of the players.

An experienced GM with a great knowledge of the rules, character traits and abilities. Strikes a good balance between letting players roleplay and keeping the game moving at a decent pace. Helpful and patient with new players but always ready to challenge the group in combat or exploration. Definitely recommend!

This guy is a great all around GM. He keeps the roleplaying and npc characters fun, and gives you challenging battles without just trying to wipe out your characters. As a near beginner myself I can say he is helpful and patient with a new player learning how to play their characters even in a group of veteran players. He knows the rules and anything he doesn't have memorized he finds quickly. He has also mentioned he plays often so he probably keeps up to date on the new content and also gets into the more advanced games too! :)
