About Shaddoe

As an active member of online roleplay communities for over two decades, I have experienced nearly everything and now find the most joy in sharing those experiences with others. Science fiction (Cyberpunk) and space opera (Star Wars) have been my primary focus, but I do enjoy a good trip down fantasy lane (Conan, Dungeons & Dragons). I've been in roleplay spaces that have used many homebrewed systems (even making them up myself on occasion) and existing published systems like D&D 5e, Star Wars Saga Edition, SW5e, and Kids on Bikes, but by far, my favorite systems are skill-based systems like the original Star Wars Roleplaying game (D6). My tables tend to focus on creating compelling stories that allow for a wide range of emotion and depth. I believe that the biggest victories honor the characters by allowing them to lose with grace and triumph with strength. But a constantly solemn table is the pits, so please, bring your sense of humor with you to my table because I like to err toward what is funniest. I have worked in media for decades, so coming to my table, you'll see images, animation, and maps that you won't see anywhere else. One of those media jobs was covering Star Wars: The Old Republic for years, and before that, I helped found one of the largest Star Wars roleplay forums. In that setting, I bring adventures like no other. When it comes down to it, I am a theatre kid who enjoys telling collaborative stories and helping others explore their creativity.

My favorite books are filled with human achievement and hope, where someone, through thought and pure will, are able to overcome the obstacles. Books should have real consequences, and choices have an impact on the story. Week's Night Angel Series and O'Keefe's Protectorate Trilogy to name a couple.

My favorite system of all Time is

I love a lot of gaming systems, some brewed by the best RPG designers, but the one that I believe fits the setting, genre, and themes of the intellectual property the best is West End Game's Star Wars Roleplaying Game aka Star Wars D6. So much of the actual franchise was birthed out of that system.

When I'm not running games, I'm writing. I have written for several gaming websites, mostly focused on MMORPGs. I also write fiction when I have time. But my primary job is running a taxi and food preparation service that my clients call Dad.

How Shaddoe runs games

Expect from my table deep roleplay and storytelling, entertaining character voices, meaningful adventures with stakes, and a mystery or twelve, just for fun. I am here to help facilitate your stories. My tables are full of deep connections with NPCs and PCs alike. You will see characters fail with purpose and overcome with triumph. The stakes can be high at times, but the rewards are profound.

When it comes to voices

When it comes to voices, I will do a lot. I'm not always good at them, and I welcome anyone else at my table to try them out, too. Trust me, there is no shame if you don't do voices. And there is no shame in trying and failing. It's all about having fun.

Shaddoe's ideal table

My ideal table is filled with people who are there to have a good time and want to tell a collaborative story with heart. I like a table where the rules are there to facilitate consequences that players embrace. My players should be ready to hop into their characters' skin -- cry when they cry, laugh when they laugh, and triumph when they triumph. If you come to my table, it's a safe place for you to do something new, something you've never tried before. Maybe it's time for you to be a haughty princess on her first trip outside the castle or a Jedi on a quest to restore order. Maybe try an accent if you've never before. Play an instrument or sing a song, I'm down. I am excited when other people are excited about playing this game. Lean into the character, the story, and the environment because I'm going to, even if no one else at the table will.

My table is not for people who look down on other people for who they are. I run a table that is a safe place for those who are a part of the LGBTQIA+ and POC communities. It's also a safe place for introverts and extroverts, for cat people and dog people, for neurodivergent and the neurotypical.
