About Al
I am a family man with both kids and grandkids. I am a proud Native Texan, and also a Christian and Conservative (though I don’t inject politics or my religious beliefs into my games). I’ve been playing and running a wide variety of RPGs since I was in my late teens. I have experience with many games, but prefer games that allow creative roleplaying. My games are always family friendly, and beginners are welcome (I love to teach new players how to play the games I run!).

How Al runs games
Around my table, I encourage shared storytelling. I love creating exciting and challenging settings and scenarios, and then allowing my players to immerse themselves in the setting to solve the mysteries and obstacles before them. I try to be very descriptive, taking on character voices and accents (I don’t promise they’re perfect, but I do my best). Also, when possible I’ll provide handouts to make the game as real as possible. There are always moments of laughter as well as more serious moments (and even tense moments when the monsters show up!). The purpose is to have a great time, tell an exciting tale, and create stories that everyone can retell to their friends in years to come!

My games focus on...
I focus my games on storytelling, player immersion, and creating memorable moments that people can talk about for years to come. My favorite genres are fantasy and some espionage/horror. I also enjoy running superhero and certain types of sci-fi games (Cyberpunk and Post Apocalyptic settings)
Rules are...
There to give us structure, but I tend to be flexible and will bend or change rules that are preventing us from having fun. The rules are there for us. Not the other way around.
When it comes to voices
I do tend to lapse into different voices with different accents when portraying NPCs. I will let others be the judge of how good of a job I do. But you can definitely expect some interesting voices and accents from me during our games.
Al's ideal table
As I said, beginners are welcome. So are veteran players. I encourage a family friendly atmosphere and I work hard to make sure everyone is respected at all times. I tend to get out of the way and let my players take the scenario or campaign wherever they prefer. When all my players are working together to solve a problem or accomplish a task, the emphasis is on immersion, having a great time, and making new friends that share a common interest in gaming.

Immersive Storytelling
I think it's a red flag when players...
Don’t respect others. People have differences. And that’s fine. But at my table, those differences don’t matter. We’re all here to have fun. And we’re going to respect each other. That’s a hard and fast requirement for me.
My table is not the place for...
At my table, we check our politics at the door. We also respect each other enough not to use foul language that might be offensive to others. We all have differences. But at my table, the key word is ‘respect’ (and also ‘fun’…oh, and I like to use parentheses and smiley faces! :-) ).
