About Ruby
My name's Ruby, I've been Dungeon Mastering the 5th Edition of D&D and other TTRPGs for over a decade, and it is my absolute pleasure to bring you into my fold to give you the game you're looking for. I am a roleplay-focused DM who strives to build engaging, complex characters with my players and integrate them into the world they explore in the most immersive way possible. I want you to feel that the character you play and the characters you meet are real people- so you'll love them for real, and feel a real pain if you lose them. TTRPGs are my love and passion, nothing else comes close. As a DM/GM, I strive to bring immersion, emotional investment, and joy to every player at my table through fun, interesting, challenging adventures, evocative and thrilling encounters, and a deep investment in you as a player and in your character. These games are about telling stories together, and that is always my priority. Not just stories, but living stories, in real worlds- or at least, worlds that feel real to us. I accomplish this by ensuring that no campaign is ever linear or pre-written. There are plot points, pre-ordained events, and similar of course, but they are all subject to change, as is every facet of the world in which we play, based on your actions and their consequences during play. At the end of the day, the story and the characters are what is most important. If you love a role-playing focused game, mine are the perfect choice! I run LGBTQ+ friendly tables and worlds. Please keep this in mind, and be mindful and respectful of others' identities and pronouns at the table- including that of their characters. I am also vehemently anti-Generative AI, and will not allow its use at my table.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
D&D 5e, Mothership 1e, and a tie for third place between The One Ring 2e, Call of Cthulhu 7e, and Delta Green!
My favorite shows/movies are
Scream, The Social Network, the Villeneuve Dune movies, NOPE, and basically any Spider-Man movie (even the bad ones).
When I'm not running games I'm...
Doing prep-work for my games, watching movies, writing, or playing games with friends!
How Ruby runs games
I am, above all, roleplay focused. I love playing characters and playing them believably, as fully fleshed out people- whether they're a joke character (like an Imp named Grimpy who's name I came up with two seconds ago), an NPC traveling companion, or the main villain of the campaign. I love doing voices for these characters with all manner of accents, inflections, tones, pitches- whatever I can muster through my vocal cords. This is not to say I don't enjoy combat- just expect combat to be a meaningful challenge/test of your skills, or have narrative meaning and/or purpose. Not much in the way of "random encounters" with me! Further, I *insist* on weaving character backstory into the world and the story of the campaign. The degree to which I do this, of course, depends on the player/character/detail-level of the backstory in question, but it is always a must! I feel it really immerses you in the world and makes you feel the significance of all that happens that much more.

Critical Role
I think metagaming...
Totally messes with the believability and immersion of the game, and ruins half the fun of it.
I think min/maxing...
Is a fine way to have fun, but should never be the priority over telling an interesting story or playing an interesting character.
