About Ron
🇮🇪 Irish • 🏳️🌈 LGBT+ • ✍️ Writer • 🎭 Actor • 👨🏫 Teacher • 🎲 DM I've been running D&D 5e, narrative systems and homebrew campaigns since 2018. My goal as a DM is simple: to make you not just feel like a hero, but truly BE the hero of an unforgettable story! A little about what you can expect from me: 🎭 Roleplay & Acting I love bringing NPCs to life through voices, mannerisms and improv. I want you to feel like you're talking to a character, rather than me simply telling you what they say. ✍️ Your Story Matters As a writer, I love taking your character's backstory and finding ways to weave it into the adventure. Your history, relationships and choices can come back in ways you might not expect, with twists and turns that make the story feel like your story. ⚔️ Combat With A Purpose Combat doesn't have to be "kill everything in the room." I like encounters with secondary objectives, difficult choices and changing circumstances. Sometimes the goal is escaping, protecting someone, stopping something from happening or getting somewhere before it's too late. 🎲 Rule of Cool I know the rules, but I'm not interested in letting a rule get in the way of an amazing story moment. If you've got a clever idea, I'm usually going to be much more interested in figuring out how we can make it work than telling you why you can't do it. 🧑🏫 New Player Friendly I'm a teacher by day, so I'm very used to explaining things without making people feel stupid for not knowing them! If you're completely new to D&D, I'll help you find your feet. If you've been playing for years, I'll give you plenty of room to get creative. When you work with kids you NEED to be able to think on your feet! Ultimately, I want you to leave a session thinking "I can't believe that happened", rather than just remembering that you rolled some dice and fought some monsters.

How Ron runs games
🎲 My GM Style I like games that feel alive, reactive and a little unpredictable. I’ll give you a world full of people, places and problems, but what happens next is up to you. 🔥 Your Choices Matter I won't try to steer you towards the solution I've already decided on. If you want to ignore the obvious quest, ally with the villain, investigate the weird thing in the corner or burn the whole plan to the ground, go for it. I'll adapt. ⚔️ Combat Isn't Just Combat Not every fight is about killing everything on the other side. Encounters might involve protecting someone, stopping a ritual, escaping, reaching a location, stealing something or simply surviving long enough to change the situation. 🎲 Flexible & Player-Led I try to match the table I'm running. Some groups want deep roleplay, some want ridiculous chaos, some want tactical combat and some want a bit of everything. I'll introduce you to different styles of play, while making sure the game you're playing is one you actually want to play. 😂 Serious When It Matters, Ridiculous When It Doesn't I'm perfectly happy going from an emotional character moment to absolute nonsense five minutes later. D&D should be dramatic, exciting and, most importantly, fun. 🧩 I Like Problems With More Than One Solution I'd rather ask “How are you going to solve this?” than “Which of these three options do you choose?” If you've got an idea that I didn't anticipate, that's usually where things get interesting. Basically: I'll build the world. You decide what to do with it.

My games focus on...
The players wants and the characters needs. The player might want an epic battle, so I design that, but the character of that same player might need to confront their past. So, I create a battle where the character has to face against their evil wizard grandfather!
Rules are...
Important. Rules create limits and limits actually force creativity, for me and the players!
When it comes to voices
I think they are crucial. In a film or a play the audience(I think of my players as the audience) get to have costumes, make-up, and context to infer that this is a different person than the actor. Voice is the only avenue I have to indicate to my players that this is a different person.
Ron's ideal table
My ideal table is a group of people who want to play D&D rather than just play a game of D&D. There'll be roleplay, exploration, ridiculous decisions, tense encounters, bad jokes and the occasional moment where everyone suddenly gets very invested in what happens to an NPC. 👥 Different types of players are welcome. Maybe you're the clever one who spots the clues. Maybe you're the rules expert who knows exactly how your character works. Maybe you're the one who comes up with increasingly questionable plans. Or maybe you're completely new and are still figuring out what a d20 actually does. There's room for all of you. 🎭 Roleplay is encouraged, but never forced. You don't need to be an actor or do voices. If you love getting into character, I'll give you plenty of opportunities to do it. Maybe you love doing voices and getting fully into character, or maybe you'd rather say, “My character asks the shopkeeper if he's seen anything suspicious.” Both are roleplaying, and both are absolutely welcome at my table. 😂 The general vibe is relaxed and friendly. I want people laughing, getting excited, having the craic and occasionally getting way too emotionally invested in fictional people. 🧠 Come ready to participate. You don't need to know every rule or have the perfect character, but I do want players who are willing to engage with the world, give things a go and let the other players have their moments too. ❤️ Most importantly, be a good tablemate. We're all here to have fun. Support the other players, build on their ideas and remember that the best stories are the ones we create together. If you want a table where you can be creative, make questionable decisions and see those decisions actually matter, you'll probably fit in pretty well.

I am for a vibe that's...
Collaborative, adventurous, willing. I also love a group that takes their fun seriously. As in, they'll have a laugh, but know their characters, and know when things are getting serious that that can be fun too.
I love it when a player
Feels like the table is real. When they speak about the characters as if they are real people, or when they get emotionally invested. I also love when players succeed. I want them to be the heroes, so when they get to be, I'm delighted!
My perfect party mix is
Someone clever, who follows the clues. Someone with a head for rules, who can help others follow them and even bend them. Someone chaotic, who keeps me on their toes. Someone with acting chops who responds well to being out on the spotlight.
