About Ranser
A travelworn gang of adventurers bicker over the bounty board, seeking their next job. A fairy, dryad, and boggle together arm wrestle a Goliath over a stack of small cakes. A smiling gnome stands on the shoulders of a smirking goblin who is standing on the shoulders of a kobold with a cold, all three wrapped up in a rather overstuffed trench coat. I am Ranser, an experienced Game Master and Keeper. I fell in love with TTRPGs as a teenager and have been playing and running games for over a decade now. I approach every new game as a blank canvas to create a unique experience for my players, but to also give them the freedom and stage to tell their story. The magic of the game table comes from a story being woven together by all the players, by myself, and of course by the grace of the dice. Pull up a chair, and let's create a story.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
I would bring Daggerheart to tell deep and rich stories of adventure and hope. I would bring Dungeons and Dragons for crunchy grinders and tactical puzzles. Finally, I would bring Call of Cthulhu because sometimes you just want spooky fun.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
The words most commonly used to describe me are passionate, fluid, and creative. I love cheering when the characters triumph and mourning the struggles. I love watching narrative flow from the player's momentum. I love making the world change with each story beat.
When I'm not running games I'm...
I'm neck deep in whatever stories I am currently enamored with. New peoples, places, and ideas, are what fuel my passion. I start each day with a run, audiobook in my ears. I end each night with my e-reader on my pillow.
How Ranser runs games
My style at it's core is all about being fiction forward. That phrase is all over Daggerheart ad copy, and I love how succinct it is. My goal at every table is for the story to be the guiding force behind what happens. When grand social or role play scenes unfold, this is easy. I like to focus on the story in all areas of play though. Sometimes the story demands a long string of combat. Even when such warfare spans multiple sessions of fighting, my focus is on the why as much as the what for the conflict. Sometimes the characters are between arcs and are relaxing, or honing skills. Downtime to me is a perfect opportunity to explore oft unseen sides of characters, or to deepen the uniqueness of the world we play in. I try very hard to take the direction the players are guiding their characters and breathe story into their actions.

I prep by
Before each new session with a table, I relisten to the previous week. My notes are an even balance between tracking the overarching story of the game and in attempting to get to understand each character's motivations as best I can. I also reach out to players to better understand their fun.
Rules are...
The heart of the rules though should always be that they are a way to tell us how something can be done, not if something can be done.
Ranser's ideal table
The two traits I seek to bring out at my tables the most are enthusiasm and curiosity. I don't have much of a preference on experience or skill level, this is a game that should be fun and fulfilling to everyone. If you are open to sharing the things that bring you joy and also learning about the joy of the other players with you, you're going to find a home.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
If you're into creating a character that is central to a story and not just a cog in it, you're going to love my table.
I think min/maxing...
has a place; even in a role play heavy table. If you want to tell the story of someone who is competent the rules are there to help tell that story.
My table is not the place for...
Gatekeeping, bullying, or harassment of any kind. Telling deep stories in a rich world can be a very vulnerable experience, and it is one that I treasure for all backgrounds, ethnicities, races, sexualities, ableness, and identities. If that sounds extreme or untasteful, my table is not for you.
