About Randas

Expect silly voices, poorly executed accents, and a game that can flip from ridiculous to serious and back again. I love dumb jokes and stupid naming conventions but also love giving the PCs hard choices and meaningful connections. I love when my players role play! Fair Warning: My table is an inclusive and safe space for humanity's infinite diversity. If that's not your bag, this isn't the table for you.

I became a GM because

I started GM-ing because i wanted to play a more character centered, cinematic game than what was available to me at the time.

My favorite books are

There's something to like in every book, except for Portrait of a Lady by Henry James. It's the worst, and the only book I've not finished once I've started.

When I'm not running games I'm...

When I'm not running games I'm wrangling my two dogs and my ginger cat who are likely up to no good.

How Randas runs games

Role play driven but balanced with combat and exploration. It will depend on my players' preferences. I'm not afraid to be silly, or try to break your heart. I mostly go by the rules, but if a PC comes up with something amazing I'm gonna find a way to let them try. As previously stated I do silly voices and bad accents proudly, and I hope it keeps the table relaxed and feeling open to doing their own role play without feeling embarrassed or nervous.

I deal with rules issues by...

I deal with rules issues by quickly looking it up if I can, and making a judgement on the spot if it's crucial timing. The game is supposed to be fun, so if all else fails I will let fun happen. ;)

I prep by

Depending on what happened last session, I prep by writing some reminders, making a map or two, making bullet point notes on what I think will happen next... and then throwing it all out then the PCs befriend the villain and start an organic farm.

My favorite trope is...

My favorite Trope is Reluctant Hero/es". They're not the chose ones, they're not special other than that they see the problems and decide to try and fix it. Love that.

Randas's ideal table

My ideal table is full of invested beautiful humans that want to tell an interesting story driven by their character's choices. I would love excellent communication above table to make sure we're all having fun and feeling safe, and enthusiastic role play, spotlight sharing, and giving grace and empathy for in game and out of game gaffes.

I am for a vibe that's...

I want everyone, including me, to be having a relaxing, fun time where we can all laugh at our failures and rejoice in our victories. I want people to take chances and be rewarded and supported. I want a creative space, where we all feel free and safe and respected.

I love it when a player

I love it when a player looks at everything they have available to them and takes an impossible fight and turns it into a stunning series of actions that flip the combat on it's head. As the GM I want my PC's to win every fight, but I also want them to have to work for it!

I think min/maxing...

I think min/maxing has a place in D&D, and it obviously shows that a person has interest in the game and creativity in putting together their build. If the game is about characters with amazing skills it works perfectly, but less so in an 'underdog' story. But I'd never say it's bad or wrong.
