About David - Pen & Paper Knights
I have been playing tabletop games since I was 14 years old? (Currently 34) and I have been the GM/Storyteller for my circle of friends since I was 15. I have experience running all sorts of games; Alternity, Exalted, World of Darkness (Werewolf, Vampire, Mage) D20 Modern, Pathfinder, and of course Dungeons and Dragons (3rd, 3.5, 4th, and now 5th) I specialize in creating custom stories that involve or focus on each of the members of a party and am particularly skilled at improvisation and "sandbox" style games. I prefer epic-style games and am unskilled/uninterested in political-style games. I have a highly detailed, custom homebrew fantasy world with an entire roster of homebrewed (more interesting mechanics and powerful) races. I am unafraid of changing or bending the rules or implementing third-party supplements to make sure you have fun and get to live out your best fantasy life. I'm not only open to the idea but encourage the idea, of building a narrative that is unique to you and the group. I'm a father of two young children (both under 4 years) and work a Monday - Friday job. I'm doing this cause I'm an obsessive storyteller, and to make a little extra on the side. I'm a realistic, and fairly obsessive, world builder. I love anthropology, history, climate, geology, philosophy, psychology, and literature studies and generally just trying to figure out how and why the world and people work the way it does. Partially because it would help me become a better storyteller, and partially because I'm ridiculously curious. I had a semi-successful podcast about DnD for a while until I decided to take it down before the birth of my daughter and would VERY MUCH like to return to that once I figure out how to duplicate myself or slow down time. The following is a link to my WorldAnvil homebrew page. JUST IN CASE anyone was curious. https://www.worldanvil.com/w/dyrr-platinumdice

How David - Pen & Paper Knights runs games
My style falls somewhere under the following types (as presented by "How to be a Great GM") The Narrator - - Grand plans and big story trumps rules. - The Rule of Cool (ROC) GMs – rules are meant to give us bigger story elements and can be changed to make the story cooler. - PCs are superheroes – they should behave like demi-gods and do amazing things. The Author - - Great worldbuilding, epic stories, all pre-planned. - The author will be directing the players to go down certain paths because they are expecting them to go there as it is the author's story – not the players’ story. - Players are tourists – they are allowed to watch and occasionally have an idea, but it must be within the tour plans. My primary goal as a DM is to provide narration to the player's story. I get great joy out of crafting a tale that is grand that also involves the player's backstories and goals. I break up the game into "Episodes" and "Arcs" and try to give each player an Arc focused primarily on their character. I rarely, if ever, use pre-made adventures except as a source of inspiration.
