About philip
I have been playing and running games since the Late 70s, but I have done a LOT of games over the years, so while I am an old GM, I am not so old school. Horror tends to be my Jam, but I also run some "Beer and Pretzel" games as well.

I got started GMing...
Mostly due to wanting to see X,Y, and Z in games. Tho to be honest this was back in early/mid 80s, so I was not a great GM at the time. I have gotten better in the many years.
My favorite books are
That is next to impossible to pin down. I will say I have a soft spot for detectiveish books. Those ones with a weird mix of fantastic and Noir. Simon Green, Glen cook, ect.
My favorite system of all Time is
To run is CoC, I have run it since first edition, so its an old friend.
How philip runs games
I tend to go more for RP than crunch, but it honestly depends on the game, system, and players. For CoC I tend to go for "Locked room" style adventures, but at the end of the day I want my players to have a good time. I enjoy my players role playing, and my NPCs tend to be at least a bit flushed out.

I once ran a session...
That ran over 24 hours. My friends and I were trying play all weekend for a labor day weekend, and wanted to play for 72 hours in a row. That did not happen, and things got stranger and stranger as time went along. Overall everyone had fun but, nope, not again. (this was back in my late teens BTW)
I prep by
That depends a lot on the game honestly, One shots tend to be more formal, Campaigns more fluid.
Rules are...
Rules are nice to have, but sometimes may need modification for this and that reason.
philip's ideal table
Mostly, I want my players to want to play. I tend to collect people of a wide range of lifestyles and genders, but at the end of the day I think just about everyone deserves to be at a table if they wanna game. I tend to have a mix of old hands, and newer players at the same time, and overall the whole table tend to be at least a bit informal.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
Cosmic horror. While I do some gore and classic horror, a LOT of my games have the air of the unnatural to them, and a more cosmic feel.
I love it when a player
is obviously having fun.
I think metagaming...
Metagaming for the players is normal, even someone 100% unknowing the rules, will have out of game thoughts. If you want to use it in game, make sure you have the in game skills/info/chops to do it, and its all good.
