About me

Hi, Everyone! I’m an easy-going DM who believes that player fun is the most important part of a game session. I love teaching new players how to play and allowing experienced ones to fully realize their characters. I’m an avid rulebook reader but won’t let rules bog down the game or prevent players from being creative. I like to keep the pace going and focus on everyone having a great time and a positive gaming experience. For longer campaigns, I tailor my games to the style of play that the players enjoy and try to work in background and developing character story arcs. I’m a fan of the characters and can’t wait to see what happens! My GMing experience is mainly with D&D 5E, Vaesen, Call of Cthulhu 7E, and the One-Ring. But I’m familiar with a variety of systems, including Dungeon World, Symbaroum, Mork Borg, and Pathfinder. I love reading RPG books and compendia and hope my knowledge can bring a little extra flavor and fun to whichever game system I’m running. Thanks for visiting my page. Look forward to seeing you!

GM Style

I’m an admittedly player-friendly DM who tries to run balanced campaigns with enough combat to satisfy a dungeon-crawl junkie and enough narrative and role-play opportunities to please players who want more depth than just hack-n-slash. I’m always open to player creativity and changing up the style of play to meet the players’ likes and dislikes. My main goal is that everyone has fun and feels comfortable during the game session. If we have to stretch a rule or two on the way there, that is perfectly awesome with me. I enjoy bringing a little bit of humor to my campaigns, but I love the darker moods of games such as Symbaroum and Call of Cthulhu, as well. For me, RPGs are all about creativity and having a great time escaping for just a little while to your world of choice. I hope I can be the GM to guide you along. So, let’s roll some dice (with advantage, of course)!

Phil always makes sure you feel included as a player; his number one goal is to make sure everyone at the table is having fun. He's EXTREMELY knowledgable about the rules and does a great job helping out when you're not sure how something works.

Phil has run everything from one shots to years-long campaigns with our group of goofballs, and every game has been a blast! He brings a ton of prep to each session with beautifully constructed maps, well-balanced encounters, and no shortage of incredible puns. He's always willing to go off script and let players pursue interesting threads, because he knows the rules inside and out and can make any scenario into a fun challenge. Phil is a great choice for a classic DnD experience whether you're brand new or have been playing since older editions.

I've played many a session with Phil as DM and would highly recommend him! We recently played a very improv-heavy game that was very welcoming for player contributions to world-building – Phil was great about establishing general boundaries for the game that we could work within for the session, which ended up working really well. In general Phil is a very clever DM and puts a lot of consideration into the world building elements. I always appreciate a good pun here and there that always end up having a satisfying reveal whenever they crop up. He's also very tolerant of varying player types (I'm personally a bit on the quiet side) and always makes sure everyone is heard and has a chance to contribute. Additionally, he knows the rules front to back which has been especially helpful for a beginner like myself. Thanks, Phil!!

I have had the opportunity to play Vaesen, Dungeons and Dragons, and The One Ring with Phil as the DM. I enjoyed all three of them! Since I am a relatively new player, I really appreciate his patience. He's always willing to help me develop characters and explain game rules. With respect to Vaesen, I thought Phil did an amazing job of creating an eerie atmosphere during the game. The setting was a small village on a freezing cold night; we were trying to avoid an unknown creature that was lurking in the dark and mauling our neighbors. I got so into the game that I genuinely felt concern for our party! The atmosphere has been a little different when I've played Dungeons and Dragons with Phil. I still get really into the game, but it feels more lighthearted to me. Phil is a master at working references to pop culture (especially from the 80's) and puns into the background of his story in a way that makes his players laugh. As an elementary school teacher, I know that you sometimes have to work pretty hard to make connections between kids. I think it can be the same with adults. Phil does a great job of introducing his players to each other, encouraging us to interact, and setting up a fun atmosphere!

10 out of 10! I have had many amazing evenings playing in Phil's games, which include The One Ring, Vaesen and Call of Cthulhu. Phil knows the rules but he never lets them get in the way of his players' fun. He is SUPER personable and friendly and accepting. He has a roguish sense of humour and his games are filled with fun references. He never lets these get in the way of the tone of the game, which he is adept at creating. His custom maps are top notch. He is always very prepared for his games. He responds to players' choices and is really there to make sure we have a good time.
