About One-Shot Book Club
Like books? Wish they were brought to life in role-playing games? Look no further! One-Shot Book Club transforms your favorite literary settings into rich roleplaying adventures that you get to make your own. Any book will do - sci-fi robot apocalypse, Jane Austen court intrigue, Treasure Island swashbuckling romp. Even nonfiction - play through your favorite historical epoch, take on your favorite (or least favorite) philosopher in hand-to-hand combat, put your druidic skills to the test in the annals of a biology textbook. ANY. BOOK. WORKS. The logistics: Send me the title of your favorite book, in any theme or genre. I will read said book, and then create an immersive RPG world, using the mechanics of your favorite TTRPG (especially D&D 5e or Pathfinder, but I will prepare games using any system you would prefer). I will then run a one-shot for you and your party in the world of your chosen book. Plot will take cues from the events of said book, but we'll still use the open-world mechanics that make role-playing games great. So, depending on how you feel, you could start an interior decorating business in Middle-Earth, teach Hamlet to use pact magic, or send Charles Dickens's England to war. If you like the one-shot, we can turn it into a campaign!

How One-Shot Book Club runs games
BEGINNERS WELCOME. Anybody welcome, in fact. All ages, all experience levels, all identities. Also, feel free to specify what kind of mechanics you most enjoy in an RPG - I can tailor your experience to be more combat-heavy, more focused on role-play and character development, etc. Please also let me know if there are certain themes or topics that make you uncomfortable, and that you would not like to see in our game. Feeling safe at the table is important. I am always available to answer questions. Please message me if you are uncertain about any element of your game, or if you have suggestions about how you'd like your game to look. One of the best parts of a good RPG session is getting to creatively develop a unique world together, so all player suggestions are highly encouraged. My games are meant to allow players to really invest their characters with a unique essence. Each RPG game is different, shaped by the particular combination of players at the table, the environment the GM creates, and the particular moment in time the game is played. I try to lean into this variability during my games, allowing plenty of space for improvisation, humor, and unconventional mechanics. I create as much space as possible for unexpected player actions, while still providing a world with enough descriptive detail, tactical stakes, and narrative backstory to feel immersive. Let's bring some books to life! Send me your favorite tomes of knowledge and adventure, assemble your party, and prepare to enter worlds you have until now only seen on the page...
