About Sam Duguay / Oathsworn Storytelling

Hi! My name is Sam Duguay, and I am a professional dungeon master. I worked in a commercial kitchen for about 10 years before I realized that it just wasn't my calling anymore. Luckily, a new game store had just opened up and need some new DMs. Having been a DM before, made my mistakes and learned from them, I wanted to give it another shot. Well, as of writing this, my players are going to be going to be playing the finale of a campaign that's been running almost 2 years, I work at that game shop (Dragon Guild in Chilliwack, BC, if you're interested) as a manager, am writing a book, and I run games roughly 3-4 times a week. I really am living my dream. So, if you're interested in my services (the services of a DM that has skill in writing, table management, and plenty of experience in 5th Edition), please, feel free to reach out! My rates are reasonable and adjustable based on your financial ability. I do this for the love of the game. Hope to hear from you soon!

I became a GM because

I love the creative writing aspect of the game.

I got started GMing...

On a lark, as many of us do, running a silly adventure for my friends.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Story-focused, creative, hardworking

How Sam Duguay / Oathsworn Storytelling runs games

Story-oriented DM, combat/random encounters are limited unless it is relevant to the story (travel from one town to another may not have any combat unless a story point is the danger on the roads), encourages roleplay and connection with the other characters, works well with character backstory.

Featured Prompts

I deal with rules issues by...

making a ruling on the spot.

Rules are...

secondary to story.

When it comes to voices

I try my best.

Sam Duguay / Oathsworn Storytelling's ideal table

Players that love to explore their backstory and how mechanics tie into that fit well at my table. I like to take things more seriously at the table, with moments of levity.

character-driven story

I think it's a red flag when players...

complain about "rule of cool."

My table is not the place for...

murder hoboes and people who can't take anything seriously.
