About Nyx

StartPlaying profile picture art commissioned from @Sagirimono on VGen.co My name is Nyx, and I would love to be YOUR next DM! My game tables provide a lighthearted, semi-humorous environment where you are encouraged to be yourself, create the character you'll enjoy playing most, and engage with the narrative by intertwining your backstory with the core storyline if that's something you're interested in. I have been writing creatively for over ten years of my life. In that time, have developed a strong sense of creating a full-circle story that can connect back to itself and have logically assembled explanations. I enjoy writing original campaigns and environments and incorporating interesting homebrew aspects whilst still respecting and utilizing the D&D 2014 base ruleset. In the future, I will offer Scion TTRPG campaigns through StartPlaying as well. I hope to see you at the table!

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

Scion, Scion, and Scion.

My favorite shows/movies are

I don't see one for video games so I'm hijacking this one. My favorite video game of all time is The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii, 2006). I grew up playing it and I enjoy the puzzle structure of the entire Zelda franchise above all else.

My favorite system of all Time is

I'm not sure what company Time is, but my favorite TTRPG system is Scion. It's very easy to memorize how the numbers work, primarily uses one type of die, and is significantly relaxed compared to paying attention to a D&D game where things are layered and intricate.

How Nyx runs games

I love intricately written campaigns that have many details to discover about their story and lore. My plotlines tend to have multiple centric points of the story which connect back to the same villains or motives in varying ways. I also love giving players the opportunity to connect their characters or backstories to these centric plot points, such as being part of a certain religion, originating from a certain region, or being related to certain NPCs, which would all give various knowledge or skills related to those ties. My campaigns are equally weighted on roleplay and combat. My dungeons are heavily themed after my favorite video game franchise, and so they are full of intricate puzzles that must be solved in order to progress. Many of the places players will visit are sacred or top-secret, and many of their mysteries are long-forgotten. They are almost a personification of history.

I deal with rules issues by...

reminding players that the game runs according to my say, and ending the dispute by clarifying how I personally interpret the rule they're debating. After all, the first rule of D&D is that it doesn't have to follow the letter if it ruins the fun!

I prep by

writing so much lore that my head feels like it's going to explode. It is the true warrior's calling of every good GM! /silly

Rules are...

a suggestion, at best. If a rule for D&D proves inconvenient or something I believe to be too tedious to follow properly, I'll modify it to fit my game and GM style to reduce that difficulty and relax the stiff fit into the campaign.

Nyx's ideal table

My table is a great place for players who enjoy games where the dice are more likely to work for than against them. I write custom supplements which all players in my server gain access to that can be used as a means for this purpose. If you like a game that cares about a story the table can enjoy more than the balance calculations for the next combat encounter being a challenge, my table is the place for you!

I am for a vibe that's...

focused on freedom and fun to give every player (except trolls) the experience they'd like to have during a campaign. I have extra policies and offerings in place to create separation when necessary so that boundaries don't have to be violated if two players want opposite experiences.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Zelda, forgotten mysteries, and deliberately induced worldwide chaos,

I think metagaming...

is a delicate balance that is tedious to maintain. I support players creating natural inclinations for their characters to explore things related to their out-of-character knowledge, but I fundamentally disagree with outright portraying the character as already knowing everything.
