About Dylan “Dylpickle”

My name is Dylan Lundquist, and I have been GMing for almost 10 years now. When I first was introduced to TTRPGs I was actually a player at my local Gaming Store. Unfortunately, that meant that there were 11 players to 1 GM and I decided that wasn't for me. I went on to GM my own games and have been doing so since. DnD has a special place in my heart and is the main game I have GMed for. That being said, I do love to learn about other TTRPGs and would love to be able to expand my repertoire as a GM and a Storyteller. With DND in particular, I love making and using Homebrew. Creating new things within the bounds of the given ruleset is a fun challenge. I have created entire multi-chapter documents for playing DnD in a Modern Setting, and I am currently working on making a large document for a setting where my Players will be able to ride dragons. This includes an entirely new interpretation of how dragons are categorized in DnD.

I became a GM because

I attempted to be a player several times, but they all fell through due to too many people or a lack of scheduling. I decided that I really wanted to play and took up the mantle as GM in order to make Storytelling through TTRPGs a reality.

My favorite system of all Time is

DnD, specifically 5E. This is probably a cliche answer however, DnD is what got me into the TTRPG space and it has held my interest for years. I love so many other systems, and I'm constantly looking to learn them, but DnD will always have a special place in my heart for the role it has played.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Mountain Biking. Mountain Biking is a huge passion of mine, and I do it as often as I can. Other than that, I honestly spend a lot of time creating new homebrew ideas. I love taking systems and adding my own spin to them.

How Dylan “Dylpickle” runs games

My GMing playstyle lends itself into creating lots of opportunity for RP and character interactions. I love being able to facilitate moments between the Players and letting them propel the story forward. In combat encounters, I enjoy combats that have more than one solution. Whether that means talking the villain down or having a secondary objective going on other than just "beat the bad guy."

Dylan “Dylpickle”'s ideal table

My ideal table is one that leans into the RP moments, even during combat. Players that like to min-max are absolutely welcome at my table, I too am one, but I really love it when a player takes those choices and leans into them when they RP with their fellow tablemates. A good table is one that can tease one another and make good natured jokes, even when the tension In-Game is high.

I love it when a player

pushes me to consider things in the world that I hadn't thought about before. Whether this is something relatively small like different fragrances in a shop, or something bigger like how the financial system works. It's always a pleasure when I have to stop and think about what the answer is.

I think metagaming...

has its place. Not all metagaming is bad, because it can help provide others with context they may not get otherwise. It becomes an issue when people see the meta-context as the only context, even though the game they are in may have a different understanding.
