About Nerdyindeed (Geoff)

Hello! I am a 34-year-old GM of 10+ years who primarily runs the Cosmere RPG! I’ve been GMing since the beta release and I love the Cosmere. In my free time, you will find me on the 17th Shard or the Coppermind wikis, or rereading Stormlight. If you’re a hardcore fan, you’ll find a GM who shares that passion. If you’re new, you’re just as welcome and I couldn’t be more stoked to share this with you. Together we’ll tell a story that is as fantastic and heroic as the books while still being uniquely your own.

How Nerdyindeed (Geoff) runs games

You and your characters will drive. I am not interested in telling a story that I have planned. My favorite way to play this game is when I am just as surprised by our session as you are! I will give you a world that feels alive, one that reacts to your choices and lets you shape the narrative. The adventure will not be something happening to you, it will be something we are building together. My tables tend to focus less on combat as a default solution and more on character, choices, and consequences. I’m fully versed in the rules, and when combat breaks out it will be treated as dangerous and costly. Violence carries genuine risk and meaningful stakes. However, it wouldn’t be unusual for multiple sessions to pass without a fight if the story we are telling isn’t pointing in that direction. I am, of course, always open to player feedback. If the table says, “We just want to hit something, it’s been a minute,” that’s completely fair and something I’m happy to accommodate. Moreso to say, if you’re looking for a game where combat is expected every session, my table may not be the best fit, and that’s completely okay! Any table I am a part of will be inclusive, safe, and welcoming. Respect is not negotiable, and neurodivergent and/or LGBTQ+ players will find a space where they’re celebrated. I am a GM with years of roleplay experience, Cosmere RPG and Cosmere knowledge, and a deep appreciation for collaborative play. If that sounds like a good fit for you, I'm your guy, and I am stoked to play with you!

I prep by

Checking in with my players and asking them what they want to pursue! I'll then make some loose notes to spark ideas during the session around those player items.

My games focus on...

Narrative freedom and the world moving in response to player choices. I'm not even entirely doing that selflessly. Genuinely the best games where I have had the most fun are games where I allow my players a lot of narrative control so I can feel like a player and be surprised as well!

Nerdyindeed (Geoff)'s ideal table

I love to play at a table where we are gushing over Cosmere lore as a group lol. I want to play with players where we all can teach each other things we don’t know about Stormlight and the Cosmere. I am a sweat when it comes to Sanderson stuff but gosh do I know that my knowledge PALES in comparison to some Sanderfans out there. I want those people at my table. I love characters who have strong opinions about the world they live in, who care deeply, take sides, and react to what’s happening around them. And when your character is struggling to find something in the world they feel feel strongly about, letting me know what kinds of things would provoke that reaction. I’ll make sure the world gives your character something worth caring about. I love teaching the game to people as well! So if you are a big Sanderson person (or even if you are not) but have 0 knowledge about the system or even TTRPGs in general, I want you at my table. I have taught this and many RPGs to so many people and I feel strongly about my ability to teach the game without slowing things down. More generally, the best tables in my experience are built on mutual respect. Everyone’s showing up to have a good time, and part of that is lifting each other up. I also love playing with people who take ownership of their fun, who engage with what’s in front of them, and who make space for others to do the same.
