About Maxim

Hi there! My name is Maxim and I am a DM who started running DnD 5e 2014 games a few years ago out of love for what is arguably the best, most ambitious and massive high fantasy setting ever created in history - the Forgotten Realms! Having played through different modules set in the Realms, read different books, watched movies and played video games, all about the Realms, I decided that I want to craft and run my own stories in the setting, contribute to its great lore and share my love and appreciation for the FR Multiverse with you guys! If you are also either a fan of the Realms like I am, or would like to learn more about this awesome world; or would just like to have a good time away from the turmoil of our world, welcome to my table! The campaigns I run vary by combat/roleplay/exploration proportion and can be adapted to my players' needs and expectations. I am not a Rules Lawyer and usually implement my own variation of the Rule of Cool - Rule of the Lore, which means that if something is possible within the logic of the established Realmslore, I might allow it overwriting the rules. I am only running 5e 2014 games set in the Forgotten Realms, as I think that that system most accurately reflects the mechanics of post-Second Sundering FR universe. Through trial and error I have discovered that the most convenient (for both the players and the DM), automated and functional VTT (including the native character sheet manager) is Shard, so most of my games run there.

How Maxim runs games

I prefer more serious and narrative-driven games, although humor is always welcome and appreciated. The proportion of 3 pillars of TTRPGs (combat, roleplay, exploration) changes from campaign to campaign, and can be further adjusted according to player expectations. I do try to make my games as immersive and visual as possible. I do enjoy massive, overarching plotlines, political intrigue and weaving your character's backstory into the major events of the grand history of the Realms. I strive for a high degree of realism. If you like detailed descriptions of the world and your characters' surroundings, you will definitely like my games. I love designing personal questlines for my players' characters. As deep and complete the FR's lore is, there is always blanks to be filled in (every DM's version of the Realms is slightly different, after all), and this is exactly where your character comes in. You are the main hero, and the floor is yours! Time to make history!
