About me
From good old-fashioned make believe play, to writing and acting, and now role-playing games I have always loved storytelling. My professional background is in education, most recently as a middle school teacher, and previously I have only run games for my friends recreationally, but from the first game I immediately saw the overlap between GMing and teaching. Whether for players or students, I love creating the structure that allows others to explore, imagine, and tell their own stories. These days, I am a stay-at-home mom with two little kids, trying my hand at moonlighting as a game master after bedtime. I am excited to jump back into RP for its own sake, but I am also hoping to make this a secondary income stream for my family.
GM Style
There is no rail-roading in my games. I create home-brew sandboxes and fill them with open-ended story hooks to give my players the freedom to follow their aspirations...and reap the consequences of their actions as the case may be. A regional map will be provided at the start of the game to establish the setting and help players chart their course. While I enjoy making and using maps for encounters and will likely make some during the course of an adventure, I can't promise them every time and my games will often rely on theater of the mind. I play my NPCs as people not plot devices and expect my players to treat them as such. Please no murderhobos; but if you do make the choice to engage in wanton imaginary violence you can expect to be arrested and punished accordingly in-world. I enjoy getting into character as my NPCs, but make no promises regarding performance skills; some NPCs may adopt different voices if I feel inspired, but please don't expect that as I am no voice actor. I take a narrative rather than tactical in my approach as a GM, and I adopt a facilitative rather than an adversarial stance toward my players, asking to be informed of character goals and player preferences so that I can tailor the game to them. When I establish the world at the beginning of a game, I also expect players to be similarly flexible with their character creation to make sure that their characters fit within the established rules of my home-brew setting. Communication and collaboration are key to how I run a game. Don't expect a combat heavy game from me; while I will happily create and run combat encounters I also always leave room for non-violent solutions. If all you want is a classic dungeon crawl...I'm probably not the GM for you. I prefer a clean, inviting, and friendly game where all players agree to a social contract that creates a safe, comfortable environment for cooperative play and maintains a clear distinction between the imaginary and the real. Your imaginary characters will face their imaginary consequences in-world and all in good fun, but rude or hostile players who violate the social contract of the group will be warned and will not be allowed to continue play in my games if the problematic behavior continues. If you want to be immersed in a fantastical world and set free to choose your own adventure, then let's tell your story together!
