About matthew
Hi everyone, I’m Matt. I’ve been playing and GMing tabletop games for close to 40 years now. I first heard about D&D when I was a kid around 11 and even though no one I knew played, I was instantly hooked. It took me a while to really understand the game, so I started making my own simple versions just to get a taste of it. Things really kicked off in secondary school when I had a history teacher who ran a gaming club. He was into wargaming and even used it in his lessons, which was brilliant. That’s where I got into AD&D, and from then on, I was running games for my friends after school and on weekends. I was completely immersed. Over the years, I’ve played with all sorts of groups, and for the past decade I’ve been part of a gaming community in London. I’ve run and played in loads of campaigns some short, some long, all memorable. While I’ve spent plenty of time with D&D, I’ve also explored other systems like Forbidden Lands and Old-School Essentials. It’s been a great ride, and I’m always up for the next adventure.

How matthew runs games
I believe RPGs should be about having fun, discovering new places, and chasing down mighty deeds. For me, the best stories are built together players shaping the narrative through their choices, actions, and creativity. My role as GM is to throw in hurdles, intriguing problems, and puzzles that challenge and inspire, not just roll dice. I love adventures that lean into exploration whether it’s a sprawling sandbox or a gritty dungeon crawl. I aim to immerse players in the world they’ve stumbled into, making the environment feel alive and reactive. When it comes to longer campaigns, I like to collaborate with my players to find the style of game that suits them best. And if it’s a one-shot or short adventure, I’ll give you a clear picture of what to expect so you can decide if it’s the right fit. It’s all about creating a space where everyone feels engaged, excited, and ready to dive in.

I deal with rules issues by...
if a rule is not remembered in the moment, we will take the fairest option and continue with the game, i will make a note of what has occurred and look into the rulings at a later date rather than stopping the game mid flow. the game must flow
I prep by
when i run one shots i find one i like and ill try to run the game a few times, i find that you will get the best out of the one shot this way and you will discover more about the adventure and your style of play.
Rules are...
Great and give structure to a game and a style of play and help you understand how the game is played but sometimes in the moment a ruling can be created to help over come a certain situation in a game, sometimes you can even ignore the rules and let the situation unfold as it is.
