About Mark

A character improv actor with a love of collaborative storytelling. I work best for players with little to moderate experience, or experienced players who aren't trying to "win" D&D. I want to give you a fun challenge, but I don't want to put you through the ringer. I think character deaths should have meaning to the story, so you won't likely get TPK'd on a random encounter with me. My favorite setting is Forgotten Realms, and I prefer 2014 5e, but will gladly work with 2024 rules if that's what you're craving. While I enjoy Forgotten Realms, I prefer original stories centered around your characters. I'll do modules if you like, but I'd much rather tell a new story than recycle a popular one. If you're looking for in-person TTRPG and are in the L.A. valley area, I have space to play there as well.

I got started GMing...

when I was unable to find a table set in Forgotten Realms, which is, while typical, my favorite setting. I was nervous at first, but soon discovered this was my niche as someone who enjoys collaborative storytelling.

When I'm not running games I'm...

gaming, auditioning, cosplaying, or, of course, prepping for running a game.

How Mark runs games

I enjoy bringing memorable NPCs to life. I try to give my players problems that can be solved through either creative roleplay or combat. I do allow PvP within reason- whether its light-hearted pranks between players, or intense moments of moral incompatibilities between characters, but I want to reiterate: between CHARACTERS. All players must ENTHUSUATASTICALLY consent to any PvP, and it will not be allowed as a means to solve out of character issues.

I deal with rules issues by...

quickly finding a consensus between player and DM in the moment, rather than wasting time trying to deep dive into difficult rulings mid-session. I will then inform the players this is how this rule will be used for now, but I will do further research into the topic for future sessions.

My favorite trope is...

villain decay- where an initially powerful antagonist slowly becomes less of a threat, and even a potential ally to the party.

When it comes to voices

some NPCs will have unique voices and/or dialects, and some won't. It will depend on if the character voice adds anything to the session.

Mark's ideal table

Players that care about their characters' lives and motivations fill me with glee.

Featured Prompts

I love it when a player

gets emotionally invested in a scene.

I think metagaming...

has its place. If a player can reconcile their metagaming with in-character choices and reasoning, this is ideal, but it is not required.

My table is not the place for...

trying to "win" D&D. I would like for all party members to have their time to shine. If one player is constantly trying to break the game, it may ruin the fun for the others.
