About Louis (English/Français)

Happy to GM in english or french Je peux MJ en anglais ou en français 🔴English : I'm passionate about making fun immersive universes and characters, for players to enjoy without having to think about any rule or limitation. Hi, I started GMing few years ago for french and english speaking groups of friends, but I can never get enough sessions for how much I think and develop my universes, plots and characters all the time. So here I am to share that with more players. 🌎My first asset is to provide original immersive universes, with epic plots and fun feats, that I keep thinking about all the time and when you interact with it, to keep giving you consistent and fun roleplays and results to your actions, whatever they are. Players are always drawn to multiple possible quests at a time, that can be very different from one another, but all give a better understanding of the universe and its ultimate mysteries. Everything can be solved in whatever order, influence the rest, be skipped or missed. I'm never fixed on one way to solve something either, nor on one final result. Anyway, rich open-worlds. My best prepared universe is heroic fantasy but I'm also thinking about an inter-galactic universe. 🧙‍♀️From these universes I help players make deep, consistent characters with fun and epic feats and evolution paths, from their ideas or fun premade characters I prepared. I like to have characters evolve from their first adventure, ideal for beginners but also fun for experimented players, with unique feats more or less simple or complex, and very personalized possible evolutions. It is also totally possible to join with a more experimented character. 🖼️I ask the players what they want and like, and keep trying to get a feel of them in game to adapt, have more or less fighting, role-playing or mystery solving, longer or shorter, more or less challenging, mysteries harder or easier to solve etc. I try to provide the most immersive descriptions but also have some nice pictures, maps and tokens on Roll20. ⚔️I like to provide almost realistically challenging fights and situations, foes being as complex as any character, or easier gameplay to focus on the universe and its mysteries. 📜I use dnd rules for a convenient and clear frameset, but for fun and immersion I also like to adapt these rules with homebrew stuff fitting the universe and characters' specificity, and adapt again the rolls and results when players get creative beyond the written rules. I generally don't use DnD magics, and replace it with magic consistent with the universe's mysteries, nor DnD levelling, to keep realistic HP and instead focus characters' progression on their personal feats and milestones. 🗣️I like to roleplay NPCs, and I'm not expert at making voices, but I definitely try if players like it. Bref, un open-world bien rempli.

Preparing or writing them

How Louis (English/Français) runs games

Backstage I like to craft complex consistent universes, characters and factions, make it immersive and complete. I like to help players make deep characters, use their backstories to give them personal quests intertwined with the rest and fun gameplay feats. In game I like to feel the players and adapt to them, make them feel it's an actual complete universe where they're not specifically pushed to anything, and there's no limit to them doing anything consistent there. Foes are as complex as any character, so there can be more or less negotiating, sometimes up to regional economics and politics, or epic fighting, with a realistic risk of death always present (manageable depending on players' preference). I like fights to be almost realistically brutal, so challenging but not super long. I like to balance roleplay, investigation and fighting. I'm not expert at making voices but I can do some when comfortable with the players. I use dnd rules for a convenient and clear frameset, but I also like to add fun homebrew feats based on backstories and artifacts, adapt the rolls and results when players get creative and detail more specific actions, or forget even more about the rules the more players get into roleplayed detailed creative actions. On the most extreme scenario, with the most comfortable players who like to go this far on immersion, I can play with basically no rules. This means mostly two things than can come together, separately, or partially. First one is no stats, levels or anything, only describing characters and what they're trained for and good at or not, then describing what you want to do, then roll, and I'll give you the most consistent result based on that. Second one is playing fights without turns, and with "real time" actions and reactions instead. Instead of having each player and foe attack on their turn and compare their rolls to opponent's armor, I like to describe the opponents's behavior on the instant so that you can choose to hit faster, dodge, parry or anything. This makes it more realistic but it can make it harder too. But anyway, that's just if you wanna try more immersive gameplay, I love DnD too.

I once ran a session...

with no rules. Only you tell me what you want to do, you roll and I tell you how it works out.

Rules are...

based on dnd, but then you can imagine any consistent action and I'll give you an appropriate DC.

Louis (English/Français)'s ideal table

My table can have beginners and experimented players eager to discover and evolve in an original universe. My table can be laughing during roleplay with singular NPCs or fun fights, arguing over theories and plans on what's happening and what best to do, or be tense, focused and losing hope during challenging battles. My universe and GM-ing style have a certain flexibility to fit with : -Beginners progressively discovering role-playing in an original universe. -Players interested in solving quests, fighting and clearing dungeons. -Players interested in understanding and evolving in a complex universe from young beginning adventurer to world-changing hero. -Players interested in role-playing a deep and potentially evolving character. -Players looking for maximal immersion and playing without thinking about the frameset, rules or other limitations. Feel free to discuss what you're looking for with me.
