About Alex

I am just getting started in GMing, looking to host some one-shots and find a few fun groups to run games for. I am really enjoying the Daggerheart system and want to run some homebrew campaigns in the future. Aside from TTRPGS I really enjoy all types of board games, adventure games and puzzles. I am a writer, and I love developing worlds and characters and I'm excited do it as a GM.

I became a GM because

I love collaborative storytelling & have over a decade of experience in various forms of roleplay. I have a passion for world building & exploring the intersection of tropes, plot, & character choice to create a beautiful tapestry a group can enjoy. I want players to walk away invested and excited.

My favorite books are

I really enjoyed the Dragon Riders of Pern series growing up. I loved the dynamics between the human characters and their dragons, and how they worked together to face a common threat. I've always enjoyed adventure stories. I also love Dune, Heart of Darkness, the Iliad, and Things Fall Apart.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Working in Health Information and Electronic Health Systems support. I work at a small critical access hospital in my hometown and love what I do, even with all the stress. I also love to play video games and board games of all types, but especially RPG and management sims.

How Alex runs games

I enjoy offering a rich visual experience with vivid descriptions and scenarios with reasonable stakes. I try to use the VTT to create a fun backdrop for the characters, with scenes, tokens and fun NPCs. I'm currently running a few long-term campaigns and will be offering some learn to play one-shots. I'm fully invested and enjoying the Daggerheart system and want to share that with new and experienced players alike.

I prep by

Reviewing the last session or session zero notes, creating fun plot beats & set-ups for character moments, but not setting anything too rigid in place. I love seeing where players take a plot hook, but I'm perfectly happy to throw it all in the bin in favor of fun improv and in the moment choices.

My games focus on...

Character-driven story arcs, shared decision-making, embracing and exploring the Daggerheart system, and meaningful and fun combat.

Rules are...

Fun, but bendy. I enjoy balance and will make a GM call in favor of a cool player moment even when it goes against the grain of rules as written. That being said, there are foundational rules and I'm not a pushover, but I enjoy a player who advocates for themselves to facilitate epic moments.
