About Levi

A decade long GM of 5e, alongside other major systems such as Lancer, Pathfinder and Shadowdark, as well as smaller, focused systems like Break!!, Into The Odd, DURF, and more. I love getting groups together to explore less popular systems that might appeal to their specific tastes, but also really love walking new interested people through the more popular/easily accessed systems so they can experience tabletop for themselves! I try to foster as friendly an environment as possible at my tables and have no patience for disruptive or otherwise inflammatory behavior. I strongly encourage players to simply interject or interrupt me when they feel it prudent to interact with a scene, and to help build the narrative as much as they possibly can so they don't feel railroaded or pigeonholed in any one decision. I look forward to playing with you and sharing stories together!

I became a GM because

I love to build and share stories with others. It is such a unique medium and creative outlet unlike any other, and there are few joys as exciting as getting a group together to tell an emergent story around some dice and hare-brained schemes!

I got started GMing...

Because I took a stupid "What D&D species would you be?" quiz in 2014 and everything changed

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

FIST, DURF, and Dread

How Levi runs games

Above all things, I value a player's (and party's) contribution and involvement in the narrative. At-the-table decisions and events are what makes the medium special, and what separates it from books, video games, etc, and as such, I welcome and encourage players to act with creativity and think outside the box. I'm not beholden to any pre-written plots, or afraid to "kill my darlings" as far as the narrative or story is concerned. If the party rolls hot and kills the BBEG early, so be it, there are new problems to deal with. If they fail an important encounter even I didn't expect them to fail, we'll figure out what happens next together. Your actions as players matter and impact the world, meaning I can't possibly know or expect any one outcome ahead of time. The game is new and developing for everyone at the table, me as the GM included, and I hope I can properly convey that in every game. I'm a believer in fair rules and adhering to the rules of any given system best that we're able, but know that we're only human, and in the moment, rulings always take precedent so as to move the game along and keep everyone happy. I'm not so beholden to them though that Rule Of Cool isn't always on the table; if you can think of something, tell me and we'll try it! We'll figure out how to do it in the game one way or another and keep everyone involved.

I prep by

weeping and gnashing profusely into my keyboard, eventually entering a fugue state for roughly two to three hours before I regain consciousness, having prepared exactly one narrative scene and hoping to ad-lib the rest.

My favorite trope is...

Rising to the occasion, overcoming impossible odds to come out on top.

When it comes to voices

I do what voices I can to try and better convey a character and the tone they're supposed t on give off. I don't care that players do voices or lean too hard into them, but I find that they're fun and can be a funny way to get into character!

Levi's ideal table

I like for my tables to be players who aren't afraid to get a little serious about their characters and their motivations/interactions, but also aren't afraid to relax and have fun, too. It's just a game, and we're not too precious for jokes, so it's not all business from the word 'go.' I try to be considerate and understanding in regards to player requests, and am always, always ready to play ball with whatever bizarre plan the party conjures up to tackle the current problem. Play creative, think outside the box, and play smart, because I'll only have you roll dice when stakes are high and something is on the line.

I love it when a player

thinks outside the box for a creative solution. Not every situation must be solved with outright violence, and even if it does, take the time to assess the situation and do all that you can to get the upper-hand. Cheat the enemy out of a fair fight, your life depends on it.

I think it's a red flag when players...

Constantly butt heads with their teammates, or consistently get riled up or angry at poor dice rolls, less-than-desirable narrative outcomes or consequences, or are otherwise foul sports about missed attacks, enemies dealing high amounts of damage, etc.

I think min/maxing...

is totally fine depending on the system! Some encourage it, others not so much, but as long as the rest of the party is having fun, it's totally fine. It's hard to play a game with defined stats and roles and *not* want to perform as well as you can.
