Hey, I’m McClain, Disabled Army Veteran. I am a huge nerd and love to research lore. I wear a tin hat just for fun because lets face it, we all have little crazy in us. I am in my 30s and have been playing TTRPGS for several years. I started out with Warhammer 40k TTRPG, specifically Rogue Trader. Then Dark Heresy. I moved to Dungeons and Dragons 5e while I was in the Army because 40k got too expensive under Citadel. I have GMd for almost 8 years now and I have ran games ranging from Dungeons and Dragons to the Science Fiction universe of 40K to the Anime world of Pokemon with Pokemon Tabletop Adventures. I do enjoy a good game regardless of the genre. I have the Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG and am looking to teach you how to play, I am also looking to run Starfinder 2e and Warhammer 40k as well once I figure out the best way to run them. I got started GMing...

I started GMing because none of my friends were into TTRPGs like I was and it was just so hard to find someone to run a game. I also didnt like going to places to meeting random people so Startplaying was the best thing to happen as I can meet and run games for people without having to leave house.

My favorite shows/movies are

Supernatural hands down, there is no greater show than that. I am building a campaign around this universe and it will be using the Dungeons and Dragons 5e system but youll have to request it if you want to play it.

How McClain runs games

I am all about having fun. If the players are having fun, then I am having fun as the DM. I play by the rule of cool, and I don't get hung up on rules if you are having fun. You want to do something outrageous, but there is some wiggle room on whether you technically can, I see it as interpretation so long as it isn't far out of the set of rules. I make sure everyone at the table is comfortable and nothing gets too cringe to anyone. I also have table rules that I go over at each Session 0. I don't mind restricting certain topics in the setting, but If the players choose not to, as a collective, then I go along with whatever you do in the scenes. Because at the end of the day, the campaign is about you and your characters, and if you have fun, we have had a successful campaign. I enjoy getting into characters. Ill be bringing voices for npcs most likely the same voice but its a lot of fun and really helps get you into the scene.

I have found I am a little different. I plot out a campaign with bullet points and then I review characters backstories to see how they will be included in the story. But when it comes to weekly sessions, I just make sure I have a good knowledge of what is going to happen as it can change.

Rules are...

Sometimes optional, If you are creative enough. I tend to lean towards players having fun than being a hard pass for the rules. Find a locked door and dont want to pick the lock, by all means bust through the wall. So long as things happen naturally I am okay.

When it comes to voices

I am full voices! But regardless if I am good at them I try to immerse you into the scene.

McClain's ideal table

I love a good table with people excited to play what they want. I like to give the option of house rules to the players and have you vote on what you want to include. I also look for new and improved things to add to the game, I recently started using Desperate Measures that were introduced in Critical Role and my players enjoy it. I like to challenge my players too, and offer a devils bargain where you gain a buff at the cost of your stats and you dont know what the buff would be.

My perfect party mix is

A Balance, but I do enjoy Parties that have no balance and may even lack a Healer, it makes sessions more fun seeing if you all survive. But I try to accommodate where I need to so you can pick the class and race you want and not have to worry about balance in the party.
