About me

I'm Robert Clements, also known as Kowa, Chris, GuyInRobe, and a few others. I am a passionate Game Master with over 5 years of experience running weekly TTRPG sessions. As a husband, father, and USMC veteran, I bring discipline, leadership, and adaptability to everything I do. My background in project management (PMP certified) and engineering helps me organize structured gameplay, but my real love lies in the creative side of storytelling. I thrive on improvisation and love adapting to any tone—whether it's tense, funny, or dark—as long as everyone is enjoying themselves. My games are player-driven, and I’m always looking for ways to create memorable, dynamic stories. For me, the joy of being a GM is in fostering an environment where creativity and collaboration can flourish, while ensuring every player has a voice and feels included. I’m committed to building safe spaces where players can express themselves, explore different perspectives, and embrace the fun of TTRPGs. Harassment, hate, or belittling of others have no place in my games—everyone at the table is there to have a good time. Let’s roll some dice and craft an unforgettable story together!

GM Style

As a Game Master, my goal is to create a space where your stories and creativity take center stage. My approach is centered around player-driven narratives, meaning you are the heart of the adventure. Your choices shape the world, and your characters’ actions propel the story forward. I ensure every player has a voice, and my focus is on creating an engaging experience for everyone, regardless of their experience level. I believe in a world where roleplay drives the story, giving you the chance to deeply embody your character, explore their motivations, and watch their personal growth unfold. While combat has its place, it’s the relationships, choices, and camaraderie between characters that form the true core of the game. To foster a healthy, inclusive environment, I use safety tools to ensure everyone feels supported and comfortable. My priority is to create a welcoming community where players can explore their characters and the story without fear. Everyone should feel like they belong, and I maintain a space that promotes respect, fun, and collaboration—there’s no room for anything that detracts from that. For gameplay, I prefer a theatre of the mind approach, utilizing immersive backdrops and audio to set the ambiance and enhance the experience. However, for ease of understanding during combat, I also use battlemaps when necessary to clarify positioning and strategies. We’ll be using tools like Discord for communication, FoundryVTT for virtual tabletop immersion, and DnDBeyond for character creation and campaign tracking for DnD 5e and DnD 2024. For World of Darkness games like Vampire, Werewolf, and Hunter, I also use Demiplane. These platforms help us stay connected and ensure smooth, engaging gameplay. I draw inspiration from the storytelling and improvisation of Brennan Lee Mulligan, Matt Mercer, Aabria Iyengar, Anthony Burch, and Deborah Ann Woll. Their creativity, inclusivity, and ability to craft compelling stories continue to shape my approach as a GM. I’m also very new-player friendly and love helping people learn the games. If you’re just getting started, I’ve got you covered. I provide guidance, pre-generated characters, and am always available for questions. In campaigns or chronicles, we’ll start with a session zero to help build your character and walk you through the process. My goal is to make sure every player feels empowered and excited about the story we’re building together, no matter their level of experience. At the end of the day, my table is about collaboration, fun, and storytelling. We’re here to create something special together, and I’m excited to embark on that journey with you!

Kowa handles chaotic raccoon players like myself pretty well, rolling with the punches to allow creative problem solving. He's great at managing session time and explaining even the more convoluted rule sets.

Kowa is a great GM. I've sat in his games when he was learning the V5 and W5 systems and he did fantastic!

Chris avatar

Kowa is a great DM. He makes quick and fair rulings when needed. He develops a story with vivid details. He uses background music as well. I have played in person and online games with him as the DM. He is a genuinely good human! He is knowledgeable and skilled with Foundry. He easily explains how to use Foundry for new users as well. Robert (Chris) (Kowa) is the same person!

I've had the pleasure of playing in one of Kowa's games and can't wait for the chance to join more in the future! His deep knowledge of the rules, paired with his willingness to embrace the 'rule of cool,' creates an immersive and fun experience that brings the game to life. As someone with years of experience running and playing TTRPGs, I can confidently say that Kowa is a phenomenal storyteller and game master who knows how to engage both new and veteran players. His sessions are packed with creativity, excitement, and just the right amount of challenge. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or new to the table, you'll be in great hands with Kowa as your GM!
