About Jim
I am CEO of the Dietz Foundation, the world's only not-for-profit game publisher. I've been playing RPGs since D+D used chits and through the years have played a ton of systems with a preference for Call of Cthulhu and Classic Traveller. Gaming provides one of the last opportunities in the modern world for people of all backgrounds and persuasions to come together for the sake of fun. I love meeting people through all sorts of games.

I got started GMing...
In high school. We took turns running various games, whether it was D+D or the uber-complicated ones like Aftermath. Ultimately, we each found the systems we liked to run the most, with only one being a shared world--a Bushido campaign going on since 1982
My favorite system of all Time is
Call of Cthulhu. I'm a fan of classic horror--but the system is just *simple*. Just as important, there aren't too many games where spectacular or frequent character deaths happen.
When I'm not running games I'm...
running m game company, writing, or officiating volleyball.
How Jim runs games
I think it's about the role-playing. It doesn't matter if everyone at the table knows Tina's character is possessed...the characters don't. That makes what comes next fun. With Cthulhu, the game offers a chance to explore the world of a century ago--and players always need to have multiple characters handy because you can never defeat the Old Ones, only stave them off for another day.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...
Christopher Nolan since Kubrick is (probably) dead.
I prep by
reading a lot...as well as writing. I think there's a lot of great hooks for adventures in the world around us, not to mention movies/shows where you think "It would've been better if....__________"
Rules are...
guidelines. Not every situation fits the rules--and sometimes rules get in the way of things. Really, the only thing I stick with is that once you get to combat, the dice are the dice and players AND GM are going to live with what happens.
Jim's ideal table
I love gaming because of all the varied people you meet. I like working through consensus--I like players who don't need the spotlight all the time, that they know that each character needs 'room to breathe'. It's important to be social when gaming and not treat it like business or life and death--it's a game. It needs to be *FUN*

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
history. I love working real history and real people into adventures.
I think min/maxing...
doesn't belong in Cthulhu--or gaming in general. The fun is ROLEPLAYING...sometimes that means you don't have maxed out abilities. The best heroes though are the average joes.
