About Javi GZ

Hi there! I’m Javi, and I’ve been running Dungeons & Dragons games and other TTRPGs since 1995. That year, I first discovered TTRPGs and instantly fell in love with the hobby. It quickly became a creative calling: building worlds, guiding adventurers, and crafting stories that leave lasting impressions on people. I care most about creating experiences that feel exciting and emotionally grounded. I want players to feel immersed in the story; this means they make meaningful choices and form real connections. My three decades of experience has given me the tools to create detailed, unique, and memorable gaming sessions with a sense of depth and agency. Whether the tone leans toward epic, tragic, or lighthearted, my focus is always on immersion, character-driven storytelling, and building a table where everyone feels safe and excited to roleplay. Over the years, I’ve run games for a wide range of players and personalities, and I’ve learned that the best sessions come from trust and communication. I love adapting to different playstyles and weaving each player’s imagination into the adventure. If you’re looking for a game that values story, character, and genuine collaboration, I'd love to see you at my table. The adventure’s waiting, and there’s always room for one more!

My favorite shows/movies are

The Lord of the Rings saga, the original Star Wars trilogy, Thundercats, Avatar the Last Airbender, Game of Thrones, The Matrix, Supernatural, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.

My favorite system of all Time is

Whatever I'm currently running. Seriously though, there is no such thing as a 'perfect system'. Play styles, and game groups are always evolving, and no system can fit all needs. Having said that, I lean toward games that don't get in way of the game or the pacing, and that reward players' agency.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Dedicated, creative and fair.

How Javi GZ runs games

You can expect a balanced diet of combat, exploration and roleplaying. I like my combat scenes short, challenging and meaningful to the story, not just for cheap thrills. I try my best to give my players interesting places to explore, things to do and buttons to push. ¡Interactivity is king! I love to portray nuanced NPCs with clear motivations and goals, the better to butt heads against my PCs or to ally with them if the occasion arises. I like to cater to my players preferences and play styles. I tend to ask a lot of questions first and build off their answers when running a game for them. I believe in fair rulings, open communication and curiosity before judgement. I think players should always have enough information for them to make difficult choices and follow through the consequences of their PCs actions: that's where the magic of roleplaying really is.

I deal with rules issues by...

a three-tiered approach. Pre session, I ask for any doubts or clarification about the game. During session, I try to resolve any rules issue with a brief exchange, otherwise I defer for later. Post session I host a more in-depth conversation with all the involved.

I once ran a session...

Where my players got rewarded a wish from a fairy princess. The chose to travel back in time, 700 hundreds years ago, to avert an ancient disaster from every happening. Instead of saying no, I just scraped my campaign notes off and followed along. It was the most epic finale I've ever run!

My games focus on...

Player agency, real stakes and just rewards. I don't like to describe grand set pieces where the PCs are just there to bear witness to whatever is happening. I also don't like to rob my PCs from the consequences of their actions, whether for weal or for woe. The PCs are the main protagonists here!

Javi GZ's ideal table

I strive to make my games chill and fun. I aim for light roleplaying, some offside banter and exciting scenes that engage my players. I don't shy away from delivering in-game consequences; let the dice fall where they may! I also encourage proactive involvement in the game world. I ask many questions, and even offer the chance to the players of creating some aspect of the game world, if they so wish. If you prefer more immersive roleplaying with no table talk, or if you enjoy a tactical heavy game, this table may not be the best fit for you, and that it's perfectly fine.

I am for a vibe that's...

a little dark and whimsical when I run fantasy games: think of the Dark Crystal, Over the Garden Wall or Pan's Labyrinth. On the other end of the spectrum, I also enjoy intense and dramatic thrillers when I run urban fantasy or dark fantasy games, like a Supernatural or a Games of Throne episode.

I love it when a player

Is proactive and tries to tie in their backstory with the campaign events. I love them even more if they are a fan of the other players, trying to share the spotlight and making the other PCs look cool. That's pure gold for any gaming table!

I think it's a red flag when players...

Keep information hidden from the other players and the GM, only to try to pull off a 'gotcha' moment later in the game. That's not a team player, and even worse, their attempts at hiding their intention only diminishes their chances of ever pulling it off in the first place.
