About Thomas Jarvis

Hey folks! My name is Thomas Jarvis, and I’m based in the Northwestern United States. I recently transitioned out of the U.S. Army after six years of active service, and I bring that same teamwork, adaptability, and attention to detail into the games I run. Outside of tabletop gaming, I’m also an intermediate blacksmith. That work feeds directly into my love of craftsmanship, problem-solving, and building things with purpose, which carries over into how I design and run games. I come from a military background and enjoy creating collaborative, tactical, and memorable scenarios with my players. I’m just as excited to see where the story goes as you are, and I do enjoy coming up with fun NPC voices along the way 😜 I primarily run Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, focusing on fun and creative roleplay, intense tactical combat, and strong character-driven adventures. I also run the Star Wars Roleplaying Game by Fantasy Flight Games for players interested in a more cinematic, narrative-focused system. Before transitioning out of the Army, I worked as a communications specialist, helping people learn new systems, tools, and skills. That background carries over directly into my games. I’m patient, clear, and genuinely enjoy teaching. New players are always welcome, and I enjoy helping people experience their very first adventure. There’s nothing quite like stepping beyond the wire for the first time. My table is meant to be a safe, structured environment where players can relax, stay immersed, and enjoy the game without outside-world stress bleeding into the experience. We play tabletop RPGs to escape the real world for a few hours and focus on telling stories, taking creative risks, and having fun together. Clear expectations, respectful play, and good communication help keep the focus where it belongs, on the adventure. Now let’s roll some dice! 🎲

I got started GMing...

I started GMing D&D because I loved the game—but also because I was struggling with alcohol. Creating worlds and showing up for my players gave me purpose and helped me heal. It became more than a hobby—it was a way to reconnect with myself.

My favorite shows/movies are

Dr who, Starwars (The OG ONES!), Star Trek, and the Big Bang Theory and the spinoff shows.

When I'm not running games I'm...

When I’m not running games, I’m usually shooting, hunting, fishing, blacksmithing, or wrenching on my ’85 Firebird. I enjoy hands-on work, the outdoors, and staying sharp through challenges on and off the table.

How Thomas Jarvis runs games

I enjoy every part of DND, I remember my first DnD game and how the GM assisted me in learning the ropes. This sticks with me, and I will always help new players. I love doing the different voices and engaging in dialogue with players. I'm very welcoming of all DnD players, no matter what stage of player they are! My goal is for you to have fun! I will make it challenging enough for you to feel involved, but reasonable enough for you to use your ideas and your teammates to make plans and have a fun campaign!

Thomas Jarvis's ideal table

My table is immersive, player-driven, and built around shared investment in the game. I enjoy running games where players care about the story, their characters, and the world, but I’m not opposed to things getting wild when the table energy is right. Good humor, banter, and memorable moments are absolutely part of the experience. The general vibe at my table is relaxed but intentional. We joke around, laugh, and let things get chaotic at times, but when the story calls for focus or tension, I expect players to lean in and take it seriously. I value players who can read the room and know when to turn the chaos up or dial it back. I run games with a balance of roleplay, exploration, and tactical combat. Player choices matter, consequences exist, and teamwork is important. I do best with players who enjoy cooperation, problem-solving, and building off each other’s ideas rather than trying to derail the game or “win” it. If you enjoy a table that can be both disciplined and unhinged in the right moments, and you respect the group and the game, you’ll likely fit in well here.
