About me

I run all kinds of tabletop roleplaying games for players aged 8 to 18 online at Young Dragonslayers and StartPlaying and in person at OutFront, Fire Arts, and the Kalamazoo Public Library. Based on this experience, I wrote Rolling with the Youth, a guide to running inclusive, safe, and fun tabletop-roleplaying games for all ages. I love introducing new players to tabletop gaming, building storytelling, gaming, and roleplaying confidence, and, most of all, building a fun gameplay experience for each group of players who come to my tables!

GM style

While I adapt my style to the needs of the table, my greatest strengths as a game master come from being a writer; awesome action descriptions, cool non-player characters, and, of course, pulling in elements from the players’ personality, backstory, and actions during the campaign to build a story together that everybody gets to be a part of. As an experienced TTRPG workshop facilitator and teacher, I’m also very comfortable leading people through character-creation and other aspects of the game, as well as resolving rules issues as they come up or helping to explain how niche game elements work without breaking the flow of the session. I also love finding (credited!) artwork, music, and other elements to help build the scene and story.
