About me

Hi! I'm Jonathan and I have been playing DnD for over 15 years now and run countless games with friends and for strangers alike. From being the main GM for a university gaming club to running modules at nerdy conventions. I have a wealth of experience with both veteran gamers and especially new players eager to learn. I love everything about this game. From the nerdy number crunching that goes into a really satisfying combat puzzle, to the absolute theatre of deep, invested roleplay. Storytelling is perhaps the defining feature of the human experience. Let's go tell an amazing one! I am a sometimes woodworker, sometimes voice actor, sometimes video editor, sometimes Foley artist and hopefully...sometimes a professional GM soon too. The gig economy amirite? I live in sunny South Africa and so will probably only manage to run games online but rest assured I am will prepped with the tools and the know how to do exactly that! Whether it's at my table or someone else's, I hope you find a game that is everything you hoped it could be and more!

GM Style

These days I mostly run straight up DnD 5e but am also well versed in systems like Vampire the Masquerade and am happy to switch it up. You can expect a lot of theatre kid style performances from my characters with accents that are sometimes much more accurate than other times (I have been lucky enough for this to at times turn into actual voice acting work). I think the true magic of DnD comes from it's blend of story telling and mechanics. As such I can be quite stern about the mechanics for the sake of fairness and immersion in a consistent, believable fiction, but am also very open to wacky ideas and creative expression. Being a massive game design nerd with over a decade of experience I am also very comfortable with homebrew content and altering the games rules with group consent. I run most of my games in a DnD based fantasy world of my own creation that has been building through active campaigns for about 10 years now. I like to emphasize player freedom and sandbox style gameplay in this world as I can have many groups running around at the same time, often with consequences of adventures leaking between games. One group may accidentally start a war between two nations on their dragon hunt, only for my next group to find themselves in the middle of that war, deciding that their story will be to bring peace back to the kingdoms. I also loooove profession systems like crafting and alchemy. I am unfortunately not very well versed in running published modules, but love running shorter module like games of my own design. If any of this sounds like it might be right for you then let's go make some table magic! Lastly - I am generally fairly liberal and like my games to be inclusive, fun spaces - however I also enjoy stakes, realism and often playing with darker, more serious themes amidst all the action and adventure.
